Cannot update bios - BIOS DOES NOT SUPPORT AFU
« on: 05-October-07, 19:51:56 »

Hi All

I have a MS-7255 motherboard, recently I tried to update the bios on the motherboard from my manufacturers site (www.thetechguys.com) unfortuantely I didnt realise but my machine is a T9317 and the driver I installed was for a T9207a!!

Ive had a look around and can see that microstar in the manufactur of my motherboard, ive taken pictures of it and matched the specs on the site and it is correct.

However whenever I try to update the bios to the correct one (so i am able to boot the pc), I get an error BIOS DOES NOT SUPPORT AFU. How can I get last this, has anybody else had this problem?

Please do help me!

Thanks

Hi first thing to check: The board may have a BIOS write protect jumper, if you have this on your motherboard make sure write protect is OFF.

Sometimes enabling BIOS virus protection has the same effect - stops flashing.

Hi

I have looked on my motherboard and cannot find the jumper anywhere, I have also checked my bios and there isnt an option that allows me to prevent flashing. There is nothing about virus, just chipset features etc

I have managed to find a pic of the motherboard here

http://support.thetechguys.com/Images/articles/%7Bc284f41e-b07e-4135-a895-b8176c179cfc%7D/layout.jpg

the bios chipset has this on it :

W7255
VM700F

Look on the mainboard itself and write down marketing name (if there is one), model name and PCB Version.

Also, which BIOS version are you using at the moment?

Look closely at the POST Screen and write down the full ID of your current BIOS.

Maybe this will help:

Hi

I have looked at the motherboard and found the following on the motherboard

MSI
MS-7255
V1.1

The chipsets it has are:

VIA VT8237a
VIA VT6308P

From the bootup screen, the following was written:

W7255M7 V1.0a 091906

When looking in the bios setup, I can see that the bios version is 1.0A (09/19/06)

W7255M7

OK, that makes things a little clearer.

M7 is an ID that indicates where your current BIOS comes from.  M7 means that you have a Medion OEM-BIOS.  That explains why you are not able to flash a MSI BIOS file.

You have the OEM version of this mainboard.  Medion is responsible for support, drivers and BIOS Updates.

That motherboard is an OEM model.  It uses a bios version that the OEM had installed.  You need to contact them to get the right bios.

@gurmukh:

Try this:

Go to http://www.medion.com/

Select you country, after that click on whatever link you find that will get you to a Download-Search-mask for drivers, manuals and BIOS updates.

If you find the mask, enter MS 7255 in the box for a full-text search. Make sure that you leave an empty space between MS and 7255.

After that you will get a list of results that also contains BIOS updates.

Be careful, only use BIOS files that are meant to be flashed on your revision of the board: MS-7255 v1.1

Thanks for that!

Ive had a look on the medion site and they seem to have all revisions from v1.2 onwards but not the 1.1 !!

Is there any other resource I could try to find this OEM 1.1 bios driver?

Thanks

I don't really know.

Does you board have firewire?

I just had a look at the German Medion Site.  One of the criteria they use to sort the board revision is firewire/no firewire.  That is why I am asking.

/Edit:

I just had a look around.  There seem to be quite a lot different OEM versions of this board around and as many corresponding BIOS Files.  Flashing the wrong BIOS could ruin the system altogether.  If you don't have any major problems with your current BIOS, there is no point in flashing a different version anyway.

If you are really sure you have to flash.  Contact Medion Support directly and request information on compatible BIOS files that are safe to flash.

I am afraid we cannot not really help you here.

Sorry guy's that's an OEM board, sold by Dixons!
You should ask Dixons how to update your BIOS, not us.

I close this topic as we can't help with OEM systems.
