Hi,

I built a PC some time ago (over 3 years ago) and at the time put in 1gb of PC2700 by 2 * 512MB units. All I could afford at the time. Now as that memory is more expensive than the latest, I was looking to increase it whilst I can afford it.

I cannot really afford to remove the 2 units of 512MB and buy 3 * 1GB, and was looking to just add 1GB to the 2 * 512MB already in it.

My question is, will this actually work, or will it throw a fit as the units are not of the same size.?

TIA

MS-6712 is too vague a description of your board, please look here and give full marketing name of your board:

Why do you need more memory? 1gb is plenty enough for most general applications.

I would just like to get the most I can use (economically) before they are no longer available, or get more expensive. I built the PC for video editing, so the more memory the better.

Start from scratch.

I would get two 1 GB sticks of the fastest memory your motherboard - whatever it is - can work with. If they don't work both at the same time at least you tried. Get quality brand: Corsair, Crucial, Kingston.

Some 6712 can use DDR400/PC3200 memory. That is a bit cheaper, a little more flexible, and a little easier to find nowadays. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=505&maincat_no=1

All it has is KT4V MS-6712 Ver 10A and further down N1996.

I have managed to locate a manual online that says 64mb to 1gb in each slot, so I am going to go for the 1Gb in the last slot and keep my fingers crossed.:-)

Thanks, I have sourced the memory OK. I have Micron installed at present and I believe I got that from crucial.co.uk.
In a link I was given for a manual stated that only 1 stick of DDR400 could be used.
