alright, so originally, I went into my bios to make the notebook boot an Ubuntu 8.10 install disc, however, i got sidetracked and changed some settings i most likely shouldn't have, including the boot graphics adapter, and the overclock percentage.. now upon reboot, the screen remains off, the external d-sub connector works, but shows nothing on my external monitor, the fans briefly run at a high speed, then return to normal, and it just sits there, capslock/scroll-lock/numlock all light up their corrosponding lights, and all the touch sensor buttons light up normally..

I'm stumped, I've been digging through the internet for a few hours.. and have found some solutions for reseting bios settings blindly, but none have worked for me so far.
help? 

EDIT: so, my question is, how can I reset the bios settings to default values without use of the screen?

Try remove battery and disconnect AC Main Power and hold "Turbo" button for 1 minutes, then connect AC Main Power and press the Power Button.
That's usually helps to recover from failed OC settings.

Well contact to reseller or MSI Tech here ==> http://ocss.msi.com.tw/ there could be some other way.
Else ask reseller for a permission to open the notebook and to disconnect the CMOS battery for 15min to clear the CMOS.

This looks like a hardware problem to me, like an overheating CPU.
Else it would have kept on running.

Best call MSI to have it fixed.

the notebook was perfectly operational before I messed with the bios settings.

could the thing be damaged just by a bios settings change?

I don't think the machine is damaged.
And I don't think it has anything to do with you playing with the BIOS.
I think it's just a coincidence that it gives the problem now.
However, it looks like overheat-protection kicking in and that only happens when hardware has a problem.

In any case, it should be warranty, so contact MSI to have it resolved.

Okay, so I ended up filing for an RMA and it is now taken care of, sorry I don't have a solution for anyone.. =/
