I've only done it once nearly 2 yrs ago and at the time had to resort to Live Update. In the future if needed I obviously would use USB tool.

Of course, I only ever flash my BIOS when I REALLY need to (I don't flash for fun!), but whenever I do now, its with our own USB flash tool.

I flash for fun. lol_anim  I love tweaking a new BIOS - hours of enjoyment.

In my countless number of flashes, Svet's tool has never failed me.  Helps flashing a few of the DFI boards I have here, too. yes

Then you or someone else has voted already on your account.  Are you always logged--does someone else have access to your machine?  I don't think it's the situation where if you posted and saved that it would exclude a vote if you haven't voted.

edit: I think I know why. You have to have 10 posts counted in the forum before you can use/see certain features.  Some forums, the posts are not counted, such as Anything in the Sun.

I would like to say that I am very impressed by the Forum USB Flash tool.  It is extremely easy to use after reading the documentation.  I have always been hesitant to use flashing methods like Windows-based tools or floppys.

I have a 64 bit system w/o a floppy drive.
I was unable to find any way to update the bios until I found on the MSI Support website how to
create a bootable Flash drive (I have an 8GB Patriot flash drive).
This worked like a miracle and I have used this way twice!
Here is the link: http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp
(at the bottom on the page)
Otherwise, I could not find any other way even searching on Google!  bonk

My other computer that I had, I had to update the bios to fix an issue with Gimp 2.0 and an issue with HT processor chipsets, I flashed mine manually. Its not difficult, and with a duel bios, if something goes wrong, there is a backup bios that I can can load and flash to the main bios. The computer had live update, the info I got was on how to do a manual update though, but its not that hard. Knowing how to do manual stuff and command line stuff, even with all the GUI stuff out there, is a good thing to know.

1242 reads, yet only 38 votes.

Me thinks you're trying to get MSI to support the flashing tool?  And are using this thread as proof of the tool being more-used than MSI's own flashing utilities?

MSIHQ USB flashing tool. It did not recognize my k9a2 platinum, so i could not use the "sure hands" option, I used the first option on the tool. Worked fine to load bios v 1.7
This was my first time updating bios so I really can't comment on it compared to other methods.Seemed like the way to go since I don't have a floppy installed. I almost did decide to do a floppy because some forum posters had stated that doing it from a floppy was the most reliable way to go,and i was kind of nervous about it failing. Live update does'nt work for me.

Hello,

New to the forums. I came accross this poll just as I was about to make a thread regarding OC'ing an e7200 on an MSI P43 Neo.

I'm sure that I'll have to flash my BIOS with a more recent version. So might I ask what the MSIHQ Forum USB Flasher is please?

Thank you

DrGonzo.

I flash using a bootable USB stick with WIN 78 on it. This is essentially the forum flasher. I figured this out as the forum flasher was being developed so never got around to using the forum flasher.

With my bootable USB stick I can also run stand alone DOS programs - such at Memtest 86+ and the like - so it serves multiple purposes.

I've used the MSI Live Updater once (it worked flawlessly, btw)

I typically use a CD-Rom DOS boot disk.

I do not have a USB thumb drive to use the flash utility with. Had I known this was going to be I woulda kept my old usb stick ipod....

I flash using the forum flashing tool, so far i find it to be the easiler flashing tool and it is also can very easily flash back to the old bios.

I've always flashed according to the MSI Manual. 50+ Mobos over the years, 100% success Rate. I will be turning to the forum flasher though. Flashed a GA Board via online method, Flash successful, lost OS!
