Topic: MSI VR630 installing Windows XP (Read 7078 times)

I apologize I'm not certain if this topic is in the right area.... This is my first post...

Anyway, I've been looking at other topics and I can't understand what I'm meant to do. When I try to install Windows XP on my MSI VR630 notebook it comes up with a blue screen just before it is about to install, I'm not 100% sure on why this happens, and I've been looking up things like updating BIOS to 1.0H, I'm not sure how to do that, so if you believe that is the reason why I can't install Windows XP, then please tell me how I can update BIOS to 1.0H.

If you have any other ideas why this isn't working for me and how I can make this work then that would be appreciated too!

Also if there is no way to install Windows XP on this computer and you're 100% certain about this, then let me know!

what's your current BIOS version installed? {Look in BIOS, System Information}

Get 1.0J from MSI web: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=8267&type=bios
Then >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< to update it.
Once done go to BIOS Setup, and Disabled AHCI Mode, then re-try with XP installation

I'm not an experienced BIOS user, is it possible you could give me step by step with the disabling AHCI Mode?

You have to:
* Run the Tool.

* Browse and select BIOS archive "1672_10j.zip"{downloaded from MSI web} and click OK.
* Choose your USB key drive letter from detection list and confirm with "Y":

* Wait Tool to finish, then reboot notebook and boot from your USB key.
{press F11 few times at BIOS spash screen for BBS po-pup and wait up to 15 sec.}
When BBS menu pop-up, select your USB flash drive:

After booting from USB drive will meet menu pop-up:
==> 1. Run Memtest86+
==> 2. Proceed with BIOS update

Choose "2" and confirm with ENTER, then press any key to confirm BIOS update and wait process to finish:

Once done turn it off and do EC Reset ==> http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112416.0

Make sure you are connected to the AC when you are doing the flash.

I did exactly as it says, but when i push F11 it comes up with my USB, I click enter on that, then it starts up windows vista regularly? No popups come... Nothing...? Try a different usb perhaps? I don't know why it's not coming up with anything! Oh I tried rebooting my computer four times, triying to get my USB to come up with something and it doesn't?

Your USB key need adjustment, run the Tool and choose option "Fix My USB Key", then repeat the steps and retry.

OKAY! Everything went GREAT! My bios is now 1.0J just like you said! Can you please give me a step by step BIOS instruction into allowing me to install Windows XP, and that should be it! Thank you!

Now go to BIOS, then navigate to "Advanced" tab, locate option named "AHCI Mode" and Disable it.
Then "Exit & Save Changes" and proceed with XP installation

i install xp sp2 on MSI VR630 but the web camera is not recognized like its not exist :( , i install web cam driver but nothing... i try thru skype to perform video and sound but it say ,, there is no camera device'', what can i do?

Press the quick launch button "Webcam" to activate the Webcam, then Windows should automatically install driver for it.

There is no quick launch button "Webcam'' on tab, there is shortcut ,,CameraRecorder'' but when i press the icon it says ,, no camera device''! also i instaled all the drivers from the cd and download all the drivers from the MSI site and still have the same problem , no camera and no sound even if i instaled the sound drivers...

Go to device manager, then expand "System Devices", and locate "MS UAA bus" Right click over it, then click "Disable".
Reboot and enter in "Safe Mode", {hit "F8" just after bios post screen}
Once done go to device manager then expand "System Devices", and locate "MS UAA bus" Right click over it, then click "Un-install".
Reboot PC, then run Realtek driver installation again.
