I have an MSI K9A2 Platinum running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black edition CPU. I flashed the BIOS to v1.9 dated 9/18/2009. How do I enable this board for Virtualization?

Thanks for the reply.
I loaded the MSIHQ USB tool and flashed my BIOS again with the K9A2 Platinum-AMD-V-A7376AMS-191.RAR file and the only CPU option I have in BIOS is "SVM Support" which is enabled.
When I run AMD CPU info program it tells me that Secure Virtual Mode Enable = NO and Running Virtual Environment = NO
What am I not doing correctly?

My setup is MSI K9A2 Platinum/AMD790FX Chipset with AMD Athlon 64x2 5000+ Black edition, 8G Corsair 1066 RAM

Run Ubuntu LiveCD-rom, open Terminal and type: cat /proc/cpuinfo

If it works you have these flags (the marked one):

Quote
flags      : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow extd_apicid pni cx16 lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy

Maybe Windows needs to see it during Installation?
Please check if you have the flag.

I think there should be another entry under CPU in BIOS specifically for Virtualization and I only see SVM Support which is already enabled.

There is nothing else, it's only that switch and that's it.
However there are X2 CPU's that have non-functional Virtualisation.
So please check the CPU-flags.

I just downloaded this from AMD's web site - Hyper-V Utility checker.

http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=177

You have to use the Run As Administrator command to launch it - anyway, it said "This system is compatible with Hyper V"
How do I get my BIOS to understand it?

Start from scratch.

Have you tested the virtualization yet? It's a Windows thing mostly, so you can safely use virtualization while searching for the correct BIOS option, to perhaps enhance the experience.

Have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed after BIOS update?
Also "Load BIOS Optimized Defaults", followed by "SAVE AND EXIT"

Download a Linux LiveCD, boot it and run the command I gave you.
It will tell the exact CPU-flags and if your CPU will ever do it.
