Hello fellow MSI users,

I have recently become an owner of an MSI Wind U130, I have currently only used the device with Ubuntu and have been very happy with it so far.

Now, I am interested in putting MS Windows XP on there, I could go with Windows 7 SE but I prefer to use an OS that's still very well supported as far as commercial developments go. Also, my college, friends and family continue to use XP, so it would be nice to be in sync with them.

I am aware that in order to get through the installation procedure (it BSODs, disk not found) I must slipstream sata support drivers into my XP cd and then use a tool such as USB Multiboot to write the files off to a bootable flash disk, but being a non-Windows expert I have no idea which drivers to use or where to find them.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Do you know roughly what I need to do, where to go etc?

Hi,

the first thing you need to make sure is that your install CD includes at least Service Pack II.

Additional SATA AHCI Drivers are not needed when you disable AHCI in BIOS (check, there should be an option for it).

Excellent, my problem was that I was using a straight XP release; as in the non service pack release.

I'm now setting it up with an XP SP2 CD, everything appears to be installing smoothly.

Nothing really, AHCI is pretty pointless on a single-drive system.

Can I just ask how you installed XP on the U130 without an optical drive? My U130 has Windows 7 Starter but I want to install XP to make it compatible with my other computers. How do I install from USB? Any help appreciated. (I've got MSI U130 + Windows XP SP3 CD)

I did an XP installation on my Wind U130 immediately when I unpacked the machine and disabled AHCI in the process. I later found that the Bluetooth doesn't work! Could this have anything to do with AHCI being disabled, or a hardware problem?

As an aside, I actually found this topic looking for the AHCI drivers so I could install XP with it enabled...so if anyone has any info on the driver, would you please let me know?

Trust me, it is not worth bothering with. Just diasble it, and Windows XP will install with no problems.

Just got myself a U130 FreeDos version... Need to install Windows XP Home SP3..

I can find the option to enable/disable AHCI? I boot using USB pendrive but cant really find my hard disk during the installation.. Only show C: FAT (which is my pendrive)...

Is there any full walkthrough for WinXP Installation on MSI Wind U130 using pendrive?
