Topic: can't enter bios on my laptop (Read 9013 times)

here is my problem
i can't enter the bios
and here is why
i have a new msi cr640 notebook
and i installed a Ubuntu on it alongside windows 7 (dual boot)
but i decided to remove Ubuntu so i went to windows and formatted the Ubuntu partition throw disk management
and when i turn on my computer i get
"error : no such partition"
"grub rescue >"
and when i press "delete" nothing happens
so i can't enter the bios to change the boot sequence
i need to boot from cd in order to fix
but i can't enter the bios

my keyboard is fine and the key is working
i can press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot and it works
but still can't get into bios

Press F11 and boot a Win7 USB/DVD, then do a fixboot / fixmbr and the problem should be fixed.
No need to enter the BIOS as it's NOT a BIOS problem, but Grub installed itself partly in the MBR, as you removed Linux you deleted Grub partly.
In short, you need to boot Windows recovery and let it fix the boot-problem, that should restore the MBR.

F11 did not get me inside the bios
F11 is not doing anything

F11 does not enter the BIOS, but it brings up the Boot Menu, from where you can select which device to boot from.

You are simply too late with pressing it, or too early.
Don't keep it pressed, as soon as you see the MSI logo press it multiple times, but don't hold it!

Remove battery and psu power for 5 minutes, reconnect them and try again.

To poweroff the machine, press the powerbutton for >4 seconds and wait for it to shutdown completely.

I wrote the following words before, because an Intel laptop is not in my domains:
It is hard to believe you need it, the things you do to it.
BIOS comes before any partition or hard disk. If you can read any messages from Ubuntu or Windows you are too late. So right after power on you start hitting the Del-key.
You are sure it is F11? Not F10?
BIOS is also in charge of a simple keyboard function, why it is strange nothing happens.

either do a reboot or from a cold restart with machine off and as soon as it starts , start tapping the f11 key, then you should get the boot screen to boot from cd.

Grub is only loaded AFTER anything BIOS related, it has nothing to do with the BIOS.
When you see Grub you already passed the BIOS.

Please goto a computer shop and let them help you, as it seems you do something wrong.

that's the problem
grub should not do anything to the bios
and i think the problem is that my hard drive is locked
because of time stamp
so i don't know what to do

i tried to hold down the power button for 30 seconds but it did not work
but is there something like this for msi
i mean could the keyboard not be working on boot and after the grub shows up it starts to work?

by the way i am not a noob and i have some experience in Computers
so don't tell me that i am doing something wrong
it's the first time that i get a grub or a dos to handle boot but this time is special that it's on laptop
and i think that i can't enter the bios because of some safety reasons that msi have.

You do not understand completely. Hard disk is irrelevant. You can take the hard disk out and still reach BIOS from the keyboard. Okey, the keyboard is perhaps damaged, but why would it be?

I'm sorry, but please seek help, as BIOS and Grub have nothing to do with eachother.
Nor does it matter if your harddisk is locked or not.
Grub is installed on the harddisk!
Remove the harddisk and Grub is gone.
As I said many times now, Grub is loaded AFTER the BIOS.

So if you can't enter the BIOS your machine is broken, also when you start you MUST see the MSI Logo or BIOS start information.
The BIOS is waaaaaay before Grub is loaded.

Grub is NOT the problem and it does not hold you out of the BIOS.
Grub is only in the way of starting Windows because it replaced the Windows bootloader on the harddisk, but that is NOT affecting the BIOS in any way.

Get help from a shop or computer-nerd-friend, please.

anyway my laptop is still in warranty so i will call them to pick it up
and i don't know why my keyboard is damaged (if it is)
and i know that it's has nothing to do with the hard disk or grub
i know that the bios is so much "closer" to the hardware than any OS
i am just confused because this is the first time to have something like this
