StarMouse GS-501 DIY repair
« on: 30-November-11, 11:35:40 »

Hello,
I have GS-501 mouse that I like very much. Unfortunatelly, the left mouse button does not work well anymore. Sometimes clicks twice, sometimes does not click at all. Since the warrany is already over, I thought I could try to fix/replace the button under it by myself. I checked the back of the mouse but I could not figure out how can I even take it apart. Could someone please tell me if what I want is possible? I know the easiest would be to buy another mouse, but only the left mouse button that does not work, if it can be fixed easily, it would not make sense to buy another mouse.
Thanks

If you are handy with electronics and soldering, and can get the components cheaply, you probably only need to replace the microswitch that is operated by the left-mouse button.

But seriously, computer mice are so cheap, that they are really not cost effective to repair. If its broken and out of warranty, throw it away and buy another one.

Yes, I know, thanks. I have already bought another mouse, of course. But I still like to fix it. The problem is that I could not take it apart, without breaking something. What I like to know, if it is possible to take it apart at home at all or should I forget the whole manual fixing thing.

You'll probably find there are screws hidden underneath, either under the model sticker, or under the pads. Then the shell should unclip apart.

Search for the magic key screw. My MS wireless mouse had 1 under the batteries that held the top rear shell and from there taking apart the the rest of it was easy to figure out.

Thank you! I did not know the screws are behind those pads. I found all the 6 screws and finally, I could take it apart!
