MSI z77a-gd65 doesn't boot 55 error
« on: 10-April-12, 22:14:54 »

Hello!

I have a problem with my pc

When I click the power button the pc is on a loop and nothing appears on the monitor.
The code that appears in the motherboard display is 55.

My pc was working without any problems for two weeks.

Someone can help me clarify what's going on?

Thank you!

How is it possible if I have the ram on it.
And the PC failed to boot without me changing anything.

Only thing that comes to mind is RAM stick(s) failed, or the CPU IMC has possibly become faulty. Might try each RAM stick individually in the primary dimm slot.

Hi pmec, got any further with this issue? I have a similar/the same problem with the same mobo.

I have the same LED error number, though mine did it straight away on the first boot.

I don't think the RAM is faulty as it is a set of 4 sticks and I've tried all of them on their own in slot 1 (though I guess it might be that the whole batch was faulty).

I also tried booting without any RAM at all to see if it behaved exactly the same, but there is a slight difference, I'm not sure if it means anything.

When there IS a stick in, the display jumps very quickly to showing '55' after the power is pressed then runs for a few seconds and reboots.

When there ISN'T a stick in, the display jumps quickly to showing '22' (iirc, I'm at work atm) then a couple of seconds later moves on to '55' before it reboots.

Maybe you could see if you get the same behaviour with no memory sticks in, I don't know what it would mean but it might help more knowledgeable people here to narrow down the problem?

If not maybe it's a different issue...

Strange update - i was inspired by the following thread about a completely different board (even by a different manufacturer):

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18392309

to try something a little odd.

I get the same result as that guy though. Put RAM in slot 3 or two sticks in 3 and 4 and it boots (not tested into windows, got no HDD connected, but it goes to BIOS fine). Any 2 sticks in slots 3 and 4 works so it can't be their fault I guess.

Put any sticks into slots 1 and 2 and it doesn't work, I get the '55' error.

No idea what that means or what to do now, any help? If the OP tries this and it doesn't work I will start a new thread cos I guess it will be a different issue.

Same issue here. I've had the board for less than 2 hours. code 55. I have reset cmos several times, and flashed the bios to 10.3
It boots with 1 stick never boots with 2.
I have tried mushkin kit and my kingston kit
I have manually set speed, voltage and timings on 1 stick of ram, then put in the second and then nothing. code 55. I have even let it go to auto everything.

will only boot with 1 stick, and I've swapped them out. Put them in slots 1, and 3 then 2 and 4. I have MSI looking into this, I think they need another BIOS update.

For those that are jumping into this thread with problems, nothing magical is going to take place on it's own. Are all of you using the same exact components, PSU, CPU, RAM, etc.? Get the drift? That is why creating a signature is nice along with creating your own new thread. Please contact MSI Tech Support and report the problems;

Same issue here.
Board worked for 2 days.
I exchanged my memory because I had a strange bios problem (reset gave me a B2 or B4 error) but after this exchange I also have a non-functional board.
Stuck at code 55  ;-((

Hello Budje70,

Can you inspect your socket pins?

Thank you.

Bleh. Same problem here. But mine started after I changed coolers. Try it in single channel only. Mine works in single channel, but not in DIMMS 1+2, only 3+4. Its a common thing on these boards.

Wish the issue would be faced by MSI, and bring out a firmware update. RMA's leave a person without their PC. Whereas A simple fix would help us all.

An update won't help if it is a socket pin(s) to CPU pad contact problem. As Warner advises, a bright light, powerful magnifier inspection of the CPU socket is recommended, along with looking at the CPU pads for pin imprints.

This is a nagging problem all over Asus/Gigabyte...  Too be honest I don't like Intel's pin socket idea, I'm coming from AMD builds and IMHO pins on CPU are much better... to spot bent ones and to fix them...

I was lucky myself and I get full 16gb of RAM recognized and I didn't see (and I won't see) famous error 55.  (keeping my fingers crossed)....

An update won't help if it is a socket pin(s) to CPU pad contact problem. As Warner advises, a bright light, powerful magnifier inspection of the CPU socket is recommended, along with looking at the CPU pads for pin imprints.

I have the same MB and my computer was working for 2 days then when I turned it on later in the day it comes up with 55 mainboard error.  I also get the 22 error when I take the memory out... I will be calling MSI in the morning.
