Boot Block on MS-7222 (5.20 < 5.50)
« on: 18-June-12, 11:45:43 »

Hello,

i have a MS-7222 v3.1 (PM8PM-V)
original Award Bios v5.20

I had memory upgrade problem so I tried to flash bios with 5.50 (live update tool :( )

upgrade ok, memory correctly recognized, but since the new version I have the "Boot Block"  :bonk:

I tried with floppy solutions :
One with Boot disk including AWDFLH.EXE and W7222VMS.550 with the autoexec.bat, and an other without boot files (boot disk created with formating tool in Windows XP)

I readed some interesting topics like those :
http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=105712.50
http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0

but no way...
FTP links are dead in the topics, and i can't find olders versions of my motherboard's Bios...

So here i create my own topic,
please Help.

(i'm French)

hello Svet,

Firstly j had a problem with memory upgrade (Not totally recognised).

So, I tried to soluce with a new Bios ( W7222VMS.550 ).

Since bios v5.50, I can't boot, i have the "Boot Block" page.

I tried it:

BIOS RECOVERY

In many cases, provided the 'bootblock' of your BIOS is not corrupted during a bad flash, the BIOS can often be recovered by following the recovery procedures detailed below. NOTE: this recovery method should not be followed for normal practice of updating your BIOS! As you will be invariably forced to flash from a floppy disk, you'll need both a known good working floppy drive (non-USB) and a good floppy disk.

 For Award BIOS

Make a bootable floppy disk*
Copy the Award flash utility & BIOS file to the said floppy disk
Create an autoexec.bat with "Award_Flash_Utility BiosFilename" in the content (e.g. awdfl823K w6378vms.130)
Sample on how to create an autoexec:
a. On Windows, open the notepad
b. On the notepad, write "awdfl823K w6378vms.130" (without the " ")**
c. Save the file as autoexec.bat

Boot up system with the said floppy (it will take less than 2 minutes before screen comes out)

Re-flash the BIOS & reboot.

---> I obtain "Invalid System Disk, replace the disk......" AFTER THE BOOT BLOCK LOADED.
