BIOS 4.1 - P67A-GD55
« on: 30-June-12, 17:40:53 »

I recently upgraded my BIOS to version 4.1.  Bad decision, if it ain't broke don't fix it right?

The previous BIOS versions have not given me overclocking issues. In 4.1, if I set the clock multiplier 45, the BIOS reports the O/C is in affect (4.5GHz). However CPU-Z shows my clock speed as 3.3GHz if I boot into Win 7 (64-bit).  I'm in "standard mode" for the bios setup.  Any suggestions?  I don't get why my configuration settings are not being utilized.  Is CPU-Z not reading things correctly?

I also tried O/C Genie and CPU-Z still reads 3.3GHz as the clock speed.  Is the BIOS too new for these programs so they default to the stock clock speed as a reading?

Is there any way I could downgrade my BIOS? I tried to flash it and the older versions are not recognized.

Tried clearing the CMOS by pressing and holding the button on the back of the mobo with the PSU unplugged.  Still same results.

Also, I have screen shots, but how do I attach them with the img tags?

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K (3.3 GHz)
Memory: 2xG.Skill F3 12800CL9-4GBRL (8GB Total)
MOBO: P67A-GD55
BIOS Version: 4.1
Graphics: MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II
HDD: WDC WD3000GLFS-01F8UO
Power Suppy: Corsair AX850\
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Update: Removed CMOS battery and got a stable clock at 4.0GHz.  Can't go any further.  The older bios revisions allowed me to reach 4.5GHz.

It's actually a good thing it didn't flash. Once you update to the Ivy UEFI/BIOS and ME8, you are stuck with it unless a method is developed to be able to restore ME7, the old Sandy line of BIOS's, and both chips for boards with have dual.

Use a hosting service such as Photobucket.

My guess is the settings in CPU Features are all wrong and the root of the problem.

Recommend PLL 1.82 - 1.84, SA 0.965, I/O 1.07, PCH 1.060. Problem may be that the Power Tech is disabled. Set it to Custom. That should restore EIST and Turbo to be available again. They can be disabled manually. In CPU Features, once Custom is set again, set all power limits to 200 - 250 range. Secondary (A) to 60. If you want power saving while OC'ing with CPU V. in Auto, enable EIST and C1E. I always leave C-State disabled, as well as EuP 2013 and Spread Spectrum. That should do it. :-))

I noticed you have the RAM set with X.M.P., might try setting that manually and see if that makes any difference if problems persist.

Tried your settings.  Couldn't get a stable clock past 3.8GHz.  Changed the CPU Voltage setting from [AUTO] to 1.34V.  Reached a stable clock at 4.4GHz with a max temp of 65 C using Prime95.  Is this new bios update not stable for "auto" CPU voltages?

That does seem to be true. V-Drop has been reported as terrible. Setting VDroop to 100% may help, but reasonably sure a new UEFI/BIOS revision is needed.
