here my computer MSI 990FXA-GD80V2
AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz
Memory Model F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL
TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB
Gigabyte Geforce 550 Ti 1gb

when i install windows 7 64 integral i have the problem of 16 gb memory install and 7.97 usable. i made some recherche on forum and upgrade bios of my 990fxa-gd80 V2 with the 990fxa-gd80 bios ver.11.12. Nothing change and some day later i fount a topic said the same problem of mine and in this topic said downgrade to bios of 990fxa-gd80 ver. 11.2. then the bios wont reboot.

my question is.
can i do something?
like put a seproom am3 soket and reflash my bios with 990fxa-gd80 v2 bios ?

yes you should be able to use a V1 supported processor to get into the boards bios to flash it to a later version for a V2 as it is one!

ahhh use 1+3 and retry 1+2 are 2 seperate dual channel banks 1+3 are one dual channel bank and 2+4 are another dual channel bank!

turn the computer off and take the cord out the PSU and move the dimm from slot 2 to slot 3 so there is one empty between them and report back if it now is able to use all 16GB!

ok thats odd in one plus 2 they should work (but saying that there G-Skill units not known for being very trust worthy with alot of MSI boards)!

remove the second ram module and clear your CMOS >>Clear CMOS Guide<< and retry with both as you have just flashed the board!

also try them individually in slot 1 to meke sure you havent got a bad stick in the dual channel kit (we see that alot here with G-skill lately)

opps sorry it will be in Advaced Dram Configeration should have the options in there but you will have to change the timing mode from auto to a setting that will allow you to manually configure them!!

you need to change the tCL (CAS latency), tRCD and tRP to 10 for the 10-10-10 part

set the tRAS to 30 for the 30

Per Command Clock (CMD) to 2N or 2T if unavalible

any thing else leave on auto as there advanced settings and unless you want to be repeatedly coming back to reset and test again leave them alone!

and that will set the timings to the ones for your RAM.

v2 is the samew as the origional board.. except being sold with Bios ver. 11.9 already installed. I own the 990FXA-GD80.

To set your memory timings..in the Bios.. go to..OC.. and under Dram Timing is: Advanced Dram Confinguration. Open that to set it. There is also a gold arrow to the left of it.

Can you post some screen shots of CPUID?
Curious to see the Tab for each dimm installed and how they are currently running.
(Open 3 instances of cpuid, 1 for each dimm and 1 for timings)

Also, what does the resource manger say about the ram usage?
I am not clear on if you are seeing 16 gb are installed with 8 (7.xx) usable or if you are only seeing 8 and have 16 physically installed. I want to make sure the system is seeing both sticks of memory and memory remapping is the issue or if one stick is not being detected.

Also, in reveiwing the manual, the dimms to install on this board are rather confusing.

They should be in the 1st dimm and the 3rd dimm, they are labeled however as 1 & 2 in the manual.

Weird try this:
Run> msconfig> boot>advanced options

Make sure there is no maximum memory checked off.

Also, see if there is any option in bios for memory remapping or fast boot or something like that.

If that doesn't work, might want to try to re-install the os, but it sounds like the memory remapping in the bios isn't working.

if Xmads sugestion below doesnt help at all try below as something is a miss here...

for giggles try them in slots 3+4 in otherwords the other bank as you may have an issue with the first set of slots if not try another 16GB memory kit as you said last time if you use just one the computer wont post at all so if using the other slots doesnt help i would suspect both dimms are faulty and its only working with both on limited chip banks on the dimms!

This should be easy to figure out. Yes, you can try slots 2 and 4. But... CPUZ will show what it sees in each slot used. You do want to use slots 1 and 2. The manual is printed correctly. It shows an order of 1, 3, 2, 4. Wierd..but accurate.

If you plan to OC.. use slots 1 and 2 only..not 3/4. (better results). I am curious how you see that only 7.XXGB.. is the only usable amount? Are you looking at a program that shows how much your system is currently drawing on? What does it show under 'System' in Control Panel. Do you see al 16GB there? If yes, then your system does have 16GB as usable. If you have a program that show only 7.XXGB being used.. that changes..depending on what you are doing.

2T was suggested. I leave mine on 'Auto'.. I did not look up your sticks.. some are 1T others 2T. 2T is easier than 1T for your system to perform under. 1T is faster.

Don't think it is the settings, either compatibilty issue with the ram, mobo is defective or os. Two of those are easy to rule out.

The memory doesn't seem to be installed in the right dimms.

10-10-10-30 is not a standard timing, are the memory timings set to auto right now?

If they are definatly in the right dimms, try some different ram. A different brand if possible.

Can you take a screen shot of the spd tabs and memory tabs not the validation. You are able to open several instances of cpuid to take one screen shot.

move the dimm in slot 2 to slot 3 next to the other one as a test and see if it then dual channels! if not try 3+4 like i said before and see what happens!

try some more configerations and see what happens if not something is seriously a miss here!

The memory is in slots 1 & 2 as required and showing 16384GB.. 8192MB ea. Am I missing someting? I see the correct memory, and still question how the question is only 7.XX usable? Ram speed: 800.1KHz X2=DDR3 1600

I do not see a problem. Scubacads123 can you please tell me how and why you believe only 7.XX is the only usable memory? Again if you have a program that shows the amount of memory being used, and it shows only 7.XX.. that will have nothing to do with your available 16GB. Although you have 16GB installed..that is the 'Total' usable available memory..not what is being 'currently'used. When memory is installed..it is not all used, at all times. Possiblt only 3.XXGB.. on a 32bit OS could be maxed out, on a constant basis. It is possible..unless you do CAD or another demanding program that you may 'never' use all the 16GB. That is not a bad thing. Head room is a good thing.

I would like to see what happens if he installs some different memory. If they are indeed in the right dimms, either the memory isn't compatible, the board is defective, or a slim chance its the mem controller. Regardless of timings, they should be running in dual channel mode w/o any hardware reservation issues. Although we never saw any screenshots of the resource manager either.

Ok.
Goto Start menu>Rt click on computer> Manage>Performance>open resource manager> Memory

Please take a screen shot of that and post.

Also, open 3x instance of cpuid. 1 with each spd tab and 1 for the memory tab and post a screen shot of that.

The next thing would be to try some different memory. If the different memory works in dual channel we know the memory is either defective or not compatible. If it didn't work either, we would know that the board or memory controller was defective.

Although I do see 16GB installed.. they are not listed... xmad seems correct... they are not compatable and it is possibly why they are in Single Channel mode... did you change a setting for single channel? They are Dual Channel sticks.

get some ram that will be more compatable with your system like some ram from Corsair as we have seen from personal experiance they tend to be more compatable with MSI boards!

I agree that setting are not a problem unless you changed something to cause Single Channel Mode? The memory you have is not listed as compatable.. you have them in the correct slots.

Corsair is excellant memory..but there are others like Kingston that are also fine. I am using Knigston HyperX on both an 990FXA-GD80 and GD65. Also it would be a suggestion to lower to CL9 memory.. why use 10 when 9 is faster. lower is quicker... unless you are an experienced OverClocker stay with CL9. 10 is a personal choice..it's up to you. Also go to the manufactuers site and verify compatability. You can also use MSI's tested list. Keep in mind..MSI can not test all memory available.

Desktop properties... how are you checking properties for Desktop?
