Hi everyone I decided to post this thread because when i browse the forum i see a lot of trouble with installing the sound drivers for the cmedia CMI9880 driver and nowhere is a clear or straight anwser. This soundchip is installed on a lot of mobo's. Intel 915P neo2 platinum, 915P combo, 915P FR and the 915G series. Even Asus (ssssh, wash my mouth) has installed this soundchip. The issue occurs when you run the setup.exe of the drivers that you downloaded. When start the .exe, you get the message that the device could not be found or that you manually removed it. It seems that the gentlemen from Cmedia forgot a little part in their driver setup. When you examen your system closely you'll see a pci device that dissapears when you disable the soundchip in the bios. So it's a device driver that you need and luckily everyone who downloaded the sounddrivers has the driver. All you have to do is browse to the directory that was unzipped. Correct directory is CMI9880Ch71\BusDriver. There you will see a lot of directory's with language codes. Pick the one that your OS uses. for example english = US. You must pick the correct language or it won't install. In the directory you'll see an .exe ( kb835221.exe) . Just run it and it will install the driver for the pci device that was unknown. When this is done you can run the setup.exe again and this time you won't be prompted because it will find the device. Problem solved. Have fun with it.

I have other msi 915 P combo, with Win XP Home edition SP2. All run ok but I bought an avermedia tv-card and I canīt listen the audio. In Avermedia support ( http://www.avermedia.es/cgi-bin/faq_avertv.asp) say that the motherboard with chip intel 915 y 925, his sound car don't detect correctly the avermedia appllication and they suggest to actualize the drivers. I have try all but I don't get nothing, there is no audio. IN CONTROL PANEL, AUDIO FEAUTURES, REPRODUCTOR, DONT'T APPEAR LINE IN, ONLY WAVE, SYNTH AND CD AUDIO. Although It appears in record properties. If i connect directly the speakers in the audio out of the tv car It sounds. But when I connect the audio out to the line in of the motherboard I only listen the windows sound, games music, multimedia reproductor but not tv sound. I think the problem is that the line in doesn't appear in reproductor properties. Please help me. thanks. Sorry for my english but I live in spain and is difficult for me explain this problem in english. Thanks for all. I wait your answer.

Hi,
I'm new owner of 925XE Platinum G54 (MS-7053 REV. 1.0). It's a lot of trouble with CMI9880L on the board.
First was a problem with driver. After BusDriver (kb835221.exe) instalation Azalia started.
But now I have another problem: sound quality is horrible, with noise and buzzz in background (it's not depend on "mute" enable or disabele). When system staret is quiet. During loading Windows noise start.
PSU repalced but nothnig changes.
Please help me
It is any chance to test onboard CMI9880 under Linux or old good DOS ?

Check your bios. 'Onboard sound' should be enabled (Azalia) Remove any audio devices under' SefeMode' or try remove it from 'NormalMode' but in 'View' select 'Show hidden devices'. Install manually kb835221 (from your language dir) and try to Install Cmedia driver. Check your driver it should be 5.12.01.0008.56 (62) (cmudax.sys). It is latest.
Its all installed, but I sill don't have sound... you must have Cmedia aplet in ContolPanel. Check mixer and front-rear settings.
Good luck.
But who help me ? (one post before)

Need some help with cmedia azalia driver. After updating the bios, i lost all the definitions of the board. After installing everything again the only thing that does not work is the sound board. It has the driver version 5.12.1.00007.36. I've already ran digicell and it says sound speaker not supported. Need some with this

it is so simple ... http://www.cmedia.com.tw/download/e_azalia.htmfile name: UDAX008(Logo56.62).zip version: UDAX008.56.62 cmudax.sys version: 5.12.01.0008.56 (62) Before you install this driver, you need Microsoft High Definition Audio bus driver. You can install MS HDA separatly from older version of Cmedia driver.

When is use the MS HDA my front panel (including my Headset) are working fine , but my 5.1 speakerset isnt. When i install the new C-media drivers , my surroundset is working fine but my frontpanel isnt working anymore.... I need a mix of both.... Anyone some ideas??

Try C-Media Audio Conf. Smatr Jack - maybe you have disabled/unusable front jack. I'm confused too.
What does it mean (last line):
Azalia link controller integrated in IntelŪ ICH6R chipset. 8-channel audio codec CMI9880L. - Compliant with Azalia 1.0 Spec. - Supports Multi-Streaming function. - Supports Universal Audio Jack (only Front Audio Jack).
Sometimes "hammer" button are visable, sometimes not ... strange
I have another problem: sound quality is horrible, with noise and buzzz in background (it's not depend on "mute" enable or disabele). When system staret is quiet. During loading Windows noise start. But when I press the left mouse button on Acrobat Reader everything is ok ...

I tried that already....didnt solve it... I think the last line means that it can handle al kinds of Jack's ( Mono ,Stereo,Mini,Large). But thats just what i think...

From my point of view your problem is exaly in UAJ function... it is something like PnP for Jack - terrible
some words about:
High quality 6-channel audio with UAJ function (...) With new Universal Audio Jack (UAJ) feature users won't have the worries about how to install speakers correctly.
Impedance sensing and jack detect techniques allow device loads on inputs and outputs to be auto-detected. Headphone amplifiers are integrated at each analog output. All analog IOs can be re-tasked according to user's definitions, or automatically switched depending on the connected device type (Universal Audio JackŪ).
BTW Why US-version of MSI 925XE Platinum has Realtek ALC861 ? It is more/less expensive ? It is better ? Why ? All Intels reference mobo are eupiped with ALC880/ALC861 ...

Have the same problem... updated the BIOS and then the sound device vanished. Also when I try to click on the 3D Audio Control Panel applet, nothing happens! Have tried installing the Knowledge Base (835221) fix manually - but of no avail. The KB fix is simply windows support for Hi definition motherboard based sound. How do I uninstall the BIOS update. Am about to try removing the device in Safe Mode, if that doesnt work, as a last resort I'm back to my creative PCI board - at least that obselete crap worked.

Hi, I have a Neo925 Platinum that comes with CMI9880 Azalia. At my BIOS / Integrated Peripherics has the option AC97 or Azalia. I used to leave in AC97. First I tried to install the Cmedia driver directly, it didn't work Error status 10 device not found. Then I read the Forum instructions, unistalled the driver and first install the Busdriver and after the cmedia driver. it didn't work either. I am frustated, because my XP Pro is without sound, I tried to change at BIOS to Azalia, and tried to install the driver manually with add a new driver but the system shows the same error. Somebody has a advice? Thanks

Hi to all............
Why did you upgrade bios if you had sound OK? Did the bios upgrade cure another problem you had?
Which sound option in bios do you choose when you install OS?

Why Azalia new ver 5.12.01.0008.50 for WinXP is not able to live-update or to install? I visited URL: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppo...?UID=635&kind=1also you can refer to another threads at: http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showthread.php?t=992011Answer: Azalia old ver 5.12.01.0007.36 is Win2k in the packed CD; with MSI Live Update 3 it does not show Azalia new ver 5.12.01.0008.50 for WinXP. This is what happened before when I was at Corbell Singapore to show to the Technical Support Team and he could not install the CD old Azalia into WinXP SP2 directly. But can install into WinXP SP1. So you can only install old Azalia into WinXP SP1 and upgrade to WinXP SP2. That's not all, if you repair your windows again with WinXP SP2; you will lost your old Azalia. Only solution is repair with CD WinXP SP1 then you will not lose your old Azalia. If you have slipstreamed with bootable WinXP Sp2, then you need new Azalia. This is the correct and new latest driver from MSI at http://www.cmedia.com.tw/download/e_azalia.htmUDAX008 (Logo56.62).zip is the correct driver for WinXP SP2 [Attention Please:] [Before you install CMI9880 audio function driver, you need Microsoft High Definition Audio bus driver.] [To knowing more information about Microsoft bus driver with universal audio architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver, please reference website: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888111 Thanks.] Further information you must know: (UAA v1.0 and v1.0a) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835221/and, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888111I have submitted my email to these URLS without reply yet. I have asked Microsoft where to get UAA V1.0a for WinXP SP2 then I can install Azalia UDAX008 (Logo56.62).zip Also at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/audio/UAA.mspx Then download UAA_Overview.doc (size 76kb, 80,896bytes), and on Page 1, this is for next coming "Windows Longhorn". Both articles do not have the download drivers or to be found or from anywhere. Why the Live Update 3 and CD did not have ver. 5.12.01.00080.50 to install for WinXP SP1 and SP2? I have requested and demanded many times from Corbell and MSI regarding to the above matters and there is no reply?

Pls see my Thread no#20 at http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=71994.0and, http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=78370.0

Hi,
I'm new owner of 925XE Platinum G54 (MS-7053 REV.

I too have had some dissappointments with azalia, i have a kenwood vr7070a with both pcm optical and coax digital. unfortunatly, when i try to run dvd software Intervideo, it does not support 7.1 output (but you throw some money at them they'll get you the proper decode) What I want to know, being the kenwood has NEO and SRS decode capability, why cant I decode multiple channels? Anyone have any clue of software that's best for what I'm trying to accomplish?
When in the xear utility, and I try to access the individual speaker (for sound check and level) I get front left and front right, but no center, surround left, right or even the sbl & sbr. Thats using the optical cable. havent tried using my 6.1 input for dvd yet (7070 will decode sbl and sbr from 6.1 and also digital pcm) but instead of letting me choose (something about the 7070 b/c of pwm signal) surround decoding, it defaults to stereo only.
also seems interesting xear allows 48/96 KHz in audio, but under Windows sound settings from control panel, the option is grey-ed out.

Hi, I have 925X Neo Platinum MB and I could manage to start my Azalia sound. But after MSI Live Update found new version of C-Media Azalia audio and I replaced my old version 5.12.01.0007 with the newest one 5.12.01.0008.60, the sound disappeared. After Rollback the driver to previous version, the sound works again. Please advise what to do? How can I check if the UAA Microsoft High Definition Audio is still installed?

Hi, Even I observed this problem. You have to run azalia setup using MSI Autorun to install it successfully. When I install it manually from the folder by executing setup, I dont get the Xear3D C-Media Control Panel (cmicnfg.cpl) at the tray but the sound works despite getting the message that the device is not found.

Hi everybody; I have same problem. I bought Msi 7028 Neo2 Platinum (include Cmedia 9880 audio codec) mainboard. I use Win XP Sp2. Everything OK but I can't listen Tv audio. Line-in and microphone don't appear to mixer control. I tried to setup Windows and different drivers, but it didn't work. I think, this problem is result from Cmedia audio codec or microsoft Hd audio bus driver. I wait your help.

Thanks voodooghost, worked a treat on the 915P/G Neo2 Platinum. Though I didn't need the microsoft drivers and to be honest, finding them, is like looking for scotch mist.

I have the MSI 7058 Mainboard, the latest C-media drivers. My problem? I can't listen to music using the frontpanel. I've set the Sound to the frontpanel, plugged in the headphones, but nothing happens. I can hear a sound when its at maximum (like a silent Buzz), but no music. The Bios version is 1.8.
