so what would you recommend I do? I must be doing something wrong..
also maybe you can help me get it optimized. My rig is quite capable but hen I run the GPU fah, it take quite a load. I usually turn it down in the configure>Advanced>cpu usage so that I can use the computer and then when I leave i turn it back up to 100%. is that right?

Install the nvidia client for your GPU.

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=5060

Then the SMP client for your processor for best results.

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=5057

I let my machines run ( The 2 in my signature ) 24/7 and have no problems with normal usage but when im ready for some gaming i just stop the clients and restart them when i'm finished. Set your processor to 100 % for best results (points).

The folding forum may come in handy for technical questions be sure to bookmark the pages.  Wink

Oke, I just noticed this thread, so might be bit late.
A 9800 GTX like mine, running specs in sig, does an average of 11 WU's a day (24/7), thats with a few hours of WoW included each day.
I leave gpu client running though, has little impact on WoW, still playing with 2X aa @32bit 1440x900, for those who want to know.
So there must be something gone wrong somewhere.
Try reinstalling gpu ans smp client, like mentioned by Henry.

Just started smp yesterday, first wu coming up.
Had to do some mayor overhauling previous of running smp, so been running on my gpu alone since the beginning.
Have to wait and see for impact on points.

You do not need to enter anything in the  passkey section.
I take it that you are running the SMP client.  That screen is a progress screen.  It indicates that you have completed 1% of the work unit that your system is running.

Just let it run in the background.  It throttles down as the cpu load increases so it does not drage down the system's performance.  It will upload finished work units and download new ones automatically if you have it set that way during the install.  Whenever you click on the progress screen (if it has completed another 1% of the work unit) the screen will be updated to show that 2% of the work unit is completed.  It will also show whenever the old work unit is completed and uploaded as well as what work unit is being run at the present time.

The SMP client uses all four of the cores to complete its work.

I have found that the SMP Folding@Home client is the best stability software that you can run on a system.  If there is a problem it will show up.

I agree.  I thought my overclock was rock solid.  Prime for hours,  yet kept crashing in SMP.   After some tweaking I found my VDIMM was a little too high and QPI(VTT) was a little too low.  If your overclock can run SMP 24/7 and stay cool, your good to go.  And as far as I know it's the only "stress test" that has a real world purpose and gives your team points! biggthumbsup keepFolding

Hi Team
I just joined and use my current machine. My question is, I downloaded and run it on my XP installation, yet I mostly boot in my Win 7 installation. Is there a Win 7 64bit download available or can I use the same download as for my XP?

ZSDE,

welcome to the fold. Your video card will produce more PPD (Points Per Day) than your Q9550 would. If you have any questions about setting anything up just let us know.

Fold On!!!

I don't know what client he's running but up to now his production is downright pathetic. He better get that 275GTX folding real soon.

I don't know what client he's running but up to now his production is downright pathetic. He better get that 275GTX folding real soon.

He is not very productive, but I think to describe it as pathetic is rather out of order Henry. Perhaps he is planning on running the GPU2 client soon, in which case, I'm sure he feels not very welcomed by your comment.

Or maybe I took your comment too seriously? If so, I apologise, but a smiley wouldn't have gone amiss in your post.

Any help is needed for the team at the moment, however small; we only have 25/264 active members!

Having said that, Welcome on board ZSDE, get the GPU2 client up and running and you'll be beating me before too long ;) Smiley

data_lore, just for your info I am working with him through PM's to help him sort out whatever might be wrong. Yes I do think you took it a bit too seriously and you're right I should have added a smiley of some kind in there. It is obvious something is wrong getting the results shown when GPU client is supposed to be running on a 275GTX.

Anyway 33 points after a few days of folding on his rig is pretty pathetic. Grin  Like I said, we're working on the problem. We don't all get it right the 1st time around. I sure didn't, beginning with drivers that didn't support CUDA to a bad configuration when installing f@h the 1st time. happy

Fantastic.

Thanks for helping him out Henry. As for the Pathetic comment. It is water under the bridge. As long as all parties involved understand that it wasn't meant to be negative. Now we can all move forward as a happy bunch of folders.

On a side note. I am ordering in the near future (AMD quad core 3.4 deneb BE, 4GB G.Skill 1600 DDR3, MSI AM3 mobo, MSI GTX 250, and MSI GTX 275) & (Intel i7 920, MSI mobo - not sure what one, Radeon 5770, 6GB DDR3 2000, 1KW power supply, OCZ SSD 120GB) OK Joker Your turn lol

Blimey, do you work for Microsoft? 2xGTX295's would cost me nearly £750 here in the UK - $1200 in US money. I wish I was as rich as you!
