MSI Cubi 2 Plus 003-BEU won't work
« on: 21-September-17, 14:30:07 »

Hello,

Hope you can help me.

Some time ago I purchased a MSI Cubi 2 Plus 003-BEU barebone and bought the following components, which I individually confirmed that should be compatible:

Intel Core I3-7100
https://ark.intel.com/products/97455/Intel-Core-i3-7100-Processor-3M-Cache-3_90-GHz

Kingston 8GB Module - DDR4 KVR21S15S8/8
Compatible according to: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?devicetype=21&mfr=MSI&line=Mini%20PC&model=94779

However, after having everything assembled the PC wouldn't startup (the LED light and the fan work but I can't access the BIOS).

Initially I thought that the RAM could be broken but after replacing it still would't work. I sent MSI the device itself and they confirmed there was nothing wrong with it.

I kept researching and I found the following info on MSI's website:

https://www.msi.com/Desktop/Cubi-2-Plus/Specification

CPU
6th Intel® Skylake-S power saving processor
7th Intel® Kaby Lake-S power saving processor

SYSTEM MEMORY
DDR4 2133MHz up to 32GB (Skylake version)
DDR4 2400MHz up to 32GB (Kaby Lake version)

Does this mean that since the processor I'm using is a Kaby-Lake processor I'll instead have to use a 2400MHz RAM? Would Kingston KVR24S17S8/4 work? Or is it better to change to a Skylake CPU?

Hope you can help me, I really don't want to be ordering more stuff without being sure it will work.

Thank you in advance.

Regards

I think BIOS is older version and it is jsut for Intel 6th CPU.

Step1: Install Intel 6th CPU.
Step2: Check BIOS version. I think BIOS version should be v9xx.
Step3: Flash BIOS to v610. BIOSv610 is support Intel 7th CPU.
Step4: Change CPU to Intel 7th CPU.
And then Cubi 2 plus can be support Intel 7th CPU normally.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

MSI told me that the BIOS version is EB123IMS.910.

Does that mean that it's incompatible and that I must change to a 6th Intel and then update if I want to use a 7th? Sorry, just to confirm.

well its a .9xx series BIOS so from what Yang Said yes you can only use a 6th gen CPU as that is all the BIOS type supports as it needs to be a .6xx BIOS to support the 7th you have so you need a 6th Gen CPU to update the BIOS to .610 that yang says!

so YES you need a 6th gen CPU to update it to use the one you have!

Yang,
where this BIOS v610 can be found?
at msi page, only 910 version is provided:
