Since the release of windows 10, everyone (including myself) who has purchased a z87 g45 gaming board is in outrage about the discontinued support of "SBC 1" (Sound Blaster Cinema). Its a fantastic piece of software, and not even all that old to discontinue supporting which is BS!

I found a way to get it fully functional on windows 10 x64 bit, depending on the issue. This is a fix for those that attempt to open the program and immediately get a crash or no windows popping up and the system tray icon freezes, so you need to end the process in task manager. disclaimer: I did not clean install windows as I am testing windows 10 out, results may vary.

I uninstalled both my realtek HD audio drivers via control panel, and uninstalled SBC. I then rebooted and had ccleaner fix any registry errors. I reinstalled the drivers and SBC.
Went into the programs folder here: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative\Sound Blaster Cinema\Sound Blaster Cinema), and deleted the SBCinema.exe.config file.

Now my SBC is fully functional on Windows 10 64 bit and hopefully it works for everyone else to! (This should work on SBC2 if the new drivers dont work either) :)

Sorry for the double post!

update: from some feedback, people say this also works with the error showing that there is no audio device available, along with the system tray freezing and crashing. Also you do not need the k-lite codec pack. This works with the latest windows 8.1 utility drivers, you wont need a previous version.

sorry, i don't have the option to edit my original post, and thought others should know.

Actually only deleting the .config file after installing fixed the issue. Awesome fix man!

I'm not sure it's 100% working though, seems like when I move the slider higher or lower it doesn't affect the sound at all. Normally when I raised the basss it would boost it but now it does nothing. Hopefully there will be an updated version that fully works at some point.

Yeah from the looks it seems thats all you have to do, but these steps are just what i did to ensure it all worked. glad its working for you.
Your right, it seems like its sorta off, but it is definitely working as far as the actual program being responsive, might just be that its not fully compatible with some changes made for the audio drivers on Windows 10. Hopefully :laugh:

Well hopefully somebody else can figure this out. Because it might be nice that the application opens, it creates weird sound issues for me, like popping/distortion and also it's clearly not reflecting the changes I made in it. (easily noticeable if you try to boost the bass nothing occurs). I'm kinda sure that the config file contains code for those settings to actually work, so deleting it may fix an issue but creates another.

I deleted the config file and then launched the .exe file by right-clicking it and "Run As Administrator" and it stated that the software needed .net 3.5 installed and it started installing the .net software. It now opens.

Ahh I don't know how this BIOS looks like, no manual in download.
Try to see in this model forum forum what drivers exactly did they install prior to the SBC 1

Even though I got it working it does not affect the sound in any way. It all lights up etc but does not change the sound. I am going to try the original driver (since I am using the new Win10 driver) and see if it helps.

Yes, I just did windows 10 Dec update and this annoying problem came back, this time the SBC window can be opened, however, instantly frozen after one click on it. I am actually quite surprise that no one at MSI or Creatvie care about such issue. Do not explain to me that Creative is no longer cooperating with MSI, I am the ultimate customer, I do not give a s**t and just solve this, otherwise you lose me as a customer, also others.

Problem Persists with A88X-G45 Gaming Motherboard as well MSI you guys really NEED to fix this. This is not a Creative problem since the software is OEM. So it is not bound by Creative to provide software updates its on you. Failure to provide support for your own products that are STILL under warranty is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE...

Flo I'm not exactly sure who "you" are but I know for a fact that msi checks these forums hence why "they" told me to post here. "They" are trying to see if an update is warranted by how many people complain on the forums about it........ Just saying.......

The forum is user level support no official MSI tech support. The moderators are users like you. To make an issue visible for MSI or demanding a fix contacting them not posting in the forum does the trick. Forum posts are checked by chance from someone working for MSI. A qery via http://register.msi.com/ will reach MSI in any case and make sure that they can get back to you. As software issues are nothing the forum can do anything about and you were also mainly complaining contacting MSI should be done.

After much research on forums and many tests I managed to solve the problem on my notebook (GT70 2PC Dominator).

Delete the SBCinema.exe.config file does not work 100%. The application no longer crashes, but when I realized any changes, made no effect on the sound.

I managed to solve my problem as follows:

After restoring the SBCinema.exe.config file to its original directory (C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Creative \ Sound Blaster Cinema \ Sound Blaster Cinema) I edited it and made the following changes:

original configuration

<? Xml version = "1.0"?>
<Configuration>
  <Startup>
    <SupportedRuntime version = "v4.0" />
  </ Startup>
</ Configuration>

new configuration

<? Xml version = "1.0"?>
<Configuration>
  <Startup>
    <SupportedRuntime version = "v2.0.50727" />
  </ Startup>
</ Configuration>

I restarted the laptop and now everything is working perfectly.

I'm sorry for any mistake in writing. English is not my official language.

Hi possuelo

The changes you've made make sense. Clearly the "Runtime" number corresponds to something installed in your PC.

Do you know what runtime file number this refers to? I've used the number you mentioned but I continue to have the same problems you mentioned before.

I must be having some other version installed. Again, thanks for your research and your post :)

I have the MSI 970 gaming mobo, and when I start my pc the sound blaster window pops up but I cant seem to be able to get in to adjust it, the window pops up and when I click on it , it closes. is there a solution to this problem. also I'm thinking of buying the Z170 M7 gaming mobo. what size power supply would be best to use with it as I was thinking of installing a 1000w or 1200w power supply , the picture attached is of the full tower pc that I plan to install the Z170 M7 mobo in with a bigger water system . I have 7 case fans and 1 on the radiator for a total of 8 fans , but my plan for a new water system is a holding tank with the lines running to the cpu the graphics cards then to the radiator mounted in the top with 2 -120mm fans or 2-160 or 180mm fans. in other words I want everything that can be water cooled to be cooled with water.

You know i Just unpacked the zip archive for Sound Blaster Cinema 1, searched all .exe files in the Sound Blaster Cinema 1 folder and individually set each one to run in compatibility mode for windows 7, then i installed it after each .exe file for Sound Blaster Cinema 1 folder was set for windows 7 compatibility. And it runs perfectly. I wanted to do post this quicker, but i had no internet for several months, sorry.

give it a try and it might help you.

i tried the config way, but it just ended up breaking Sound Blaster Cinema 1...pain in the ass

I have a A88x-G45 Gaming motherboard

TO BE MORE SPECIFIC....

If you had Windows 7 and have switched to Windows 10 and Sound Blaster Cinema 1 or 2 has stopped working, try this:

"IF YOU  ALREADY INSTALLED" uninstall Sound Blaster Cinema 1 or 2 (i use iobit uninstaller, i don't trust Microsoft base products outside its operating systems) then restart your PC.

  "BEFORE YOU INSTALL" Extract the archive file into a folder and search the folder for all .exe files and manually set each one to compatibility mode for windows 7, then install Sound Blaster Cinema 1 or 2. After that restart your PC and it should work.

 So far It has worked for everyone i personally told it to do so far..which is...18 people..i know not many, but it has worked 100% so far.

ohh and as a reminder make sure you keep your drivers in good condition even if they are not first prime or beta drivers(if you do not know what first prime drivers are then don't ask....its a pain in the ass to explain, and searching wont help that's half of why its a pain).

You are truly hero. God bless you. Thank you so much. I reg a account just to thank you. By delete SBCinema.exe.config I was able to open SBC interface but soon as I touch any setting the program freeze. After read your comment I go to my Sound Blaster Cinema folder in Program Files and set all .exe file to run in compatibility mode for windows 7. Now the program open and work flawlessly without any freeze and crash. (I still have to delete SBCinema.exe.config file). This is truly amazing, thank you again and sorry for my bad english.
I have msi ge70 2oe btw.

Well, it's stuffed again folks!

Just updated Windows 10 to the "Creators Edition" and SBC has stopped working completely.  Tried all the usual fixes but nothing works.  Well, actually that's not entirely true...  It works for a couple of clicks if I'm lucky then just freezes completely.  Looks like I'll have to say goodbye to SBC and find some other software to enhace the sound on my system!  Any suggestions guys?  (GE60 2OE)

After submitting my last post I went on a little hunt to try and find someting to replace SBC and came across this little gem named APO Equalizer.  OMG, it (in my opinion) blows SBC out of the water and is quite highly customisable.  It's effects are system-wide, and with the right GUI on the front end you can save presets for different apps such as games, youtube, netflix etc.  So far it works flawlessly and even has the option to boost the gain to make those quiet little speakers sing!

Just thought I'd share my little find with you, just in case you were looking for a viable alternative that actually works!

It's pretty F'd up MSI ended it's partnership with creative and tossed all it's current customers under the bus with out even a word to us. I've yet to see a single "official" statement from MSI on this whole thing. If they did and I missed it, please post a link.

Anyways, I finally gave up and spent $40 on a "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX PCIe" (SB1570) sound card.

Open the CD that it comes with then flip it over and set your drink on it because that's all it's good for to windows 10 users. Then head over to Creative Worldwide Support and download the W10 software package for it.

Basically you get the same thing you already had onboard but now it all works. You also get a much bigger GUI that does exactly the same stuff the old one did.

I agree, it is a shame they switched to the [censored] Nahimic.. But then again, I use dedicated sound card anyway. As well as on my laptop which has [censored] Nahimic, I got an ASUS USB sound card. Usually cheapest sound card is better anyway.

FIX OF SOUND BLASTER CINEMA WINDOWS 10
....................................... ....................................... ...........
TESTED WITH SOUND BLASTER CINEMA 1
Dear Sir,

Your solution worked like a charm. I got so desperate after so many unsuccessful tries of a combination of drivers, deleting, and modifying files.
Finally, the sound is not garbage anymore. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Wish you all the best.
