Title: OCUBA - Overclocking Utilities and Benchmarking Applications
Post by: Aaron on 28-March-07, 00:48:31
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/DJAJ123/Untitled-1.jpg)

Always remember the risks of overclocking. If you damage something it's no one's fault, but yours. Overclocking components beyond stock specifications creates more heat; BE SURE to make it absolutely certain you have sufficient cooling to address the speeds your running at.

MSI (Micro-star International), this forum, or any of it's members will NOT be liable if you cause any damage.

Neither is any support provided for these programs.

"Don't cry if you blow stuff up."

ALWAYS remember the risks!

For stability testing:
- Orthos (dual core & memory stress testing)
- Prime95 (single core & memory stress testing)
- Super_Pi (Pi calculations, mainly cpu testing)

For AMD overclocking:
- A64MemFreq (Memory divider helper)
- A64Tweaker (Windows tool for lots of memory adjustments, reserved values etc.)

Use at your own risk of course... :hypocrite:

For Intel:
Memset 3.0 - Allows you to adjust memory timings while in Windows. Works great when a BIOS forces 4-5-6-12 and you want 4-4-4-12.

For A64: Central brain identifier - CpuZ like program wich is more uptodate ATM, as cpuZ has trouble detecting the right info from some 65nm A64's
( http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Central_Brain_Identifier/1050948388/1 )

For both c2d and A64: Coretemeter - CoreTemp like temperature readout using internal sensors, but with a graph so you can take a look at temperature history better
( http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Coretemeter.shtml )

You didn't add DryHeat's suggestion.  Memset is a must have on this list.

Download link in this thread.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92190&highlight=memset

Also a nifty beta Prime95 for testing dual core and quad core that automatically spawns the right amount of threads. Best for quadcore IMO.
http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=6572

Another great tool that development seemed to have stopped, is A64tool, it was meant to be an all in one(coretemp, a64 tweaker, clockgen) but got stuck in beta, it's still very useful anyway, has a built in calculator for figuring out your overclock settings.  Read here

Looks good Yuri, good idea.   :biggthumbsup:

I was looking over my "tweak" folder on the hard drive, looks like we got most of the current stuff.

Only other 2 I had that are useful to me for overclocking and probably would be in an "other/misc" section of your list.

CrystalCPUID

http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalCPUID/index-e.html

RMClock

http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml

These have 2 functions for me.

1) Most people say to disable CnQ or SpeedStep(EIST) for overclocking.  The real reason behind that is your multi/voltage transitions are hardcoded and so the system could change PStates to something making your system unstable.  If however you can control the multi/voltage yourself to something that is stable and you aren't a user that has constant 100% CPU usage(F@H for example), you can get the benefits of lower power and heat while you are just surfing/checking email.  These programs allow you to customize those power management features.  I have used them on heavily overclocked systems for years with no stability issues.

2.) If your motherboard has a simple BIOS without features for some CPU settings, you can write CPU MSR's or toggle features that you want or don't want.

This one looks very usefull as well:
Open GL FurRenderingBenchmark --> http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/715/Open_GL_FurRenderingBenchmark.html

This benchmark requires a NVIDIA GeForce 5/6/7/8 (and higher) or an AMD/ATI Radeon 9600 (and higher) graphics card with the latest graphics drivers.

The startup interface allows you to tweak the benchmark features such as:

    * Benchmark mode or stability test mode (for overclockers)
    * Fullscreen or windowed for each type of run mode
    * Window size selection (standard or custom)
    * MSAA samples selection
    * Benchmarking parameters: time based or frames based

Its become very popular. We can make our bench database  :yes:

For Intel, stress testing/stability testing:

Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (TAT) (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php)

Not suited for Core 2 Duo temp monitoring, as it is designed for Pentium M processors without an integrated heat spreader. The integrated load test however is one of the best there is, use it to find out your processors maximum temp at certain settings. You will need to use Speedfan or CoreTemp to monitor correct temps. Temps will be higher than those generated by Prime95/Orthos.

Addition for RMclock:

Excellent tool for underclocking, not just overclocking. You can save some serious power by finding the minimum voltage for a certain frequency, therefore your CPU can run cooler and more quiet. Combinations of underclocking when idle and overclocking under load are possible as well.

It's in the right place:

(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/DJAJ123/SM.jpg)

(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/DJAJ123/orthos.jpg)

I let ORTHOS run for what 15 seconds? And it beat S&M after a minute.

Are you sure you're setting priority to 9 and small FFT test?

Running ORTHOS on priority 1:

(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/DJAJ123/priority1.jpg)

I also tried the FPU test on S&M - got even worse results...

There isn't really a preference to wear I put things. It's just wear I happen to finish scrolling down the page. :lol_anim:
Title: Re: OCUBA - Overclocking Utilities and Benchmarking Applications
Post by: Aaron on 15-October-07, 18:55:45
Well to take things further I've already run ORTHOS for 24 hours, so I let S&M loop, it was 2-5c lower than ORTHOS all the time.

I let it loop for about 8 hours, after that I got bored.

Give me some evidence of that (like I have done) and I will move it.

Post by: Svet on 10-March-08, 19:03:36
RivaTuner 2.08 Released
(http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/Image3.gif)

Minor bugfixes:

    * RivaTuner no longer crashes when RivaTuner module activation launcher item is scheduled to run at Windows startup.
    * Fixed association between low-level refresh overrider rules and target display adapter, broken due to low-level profiles association related changes in the previous version.
    * Minor UI and localization fixes.

What's new:

    * Updated databases for Detonator and ForceWare drivers. Added database for ForceWare 169.44.
    * Added Catalyst 8.3 drivers detection.
    * Updated Catalyst 8.3 certified SoftR9x00 patch script (for Windows 2000/XP drivers only).
    * Updated PCI DeviceID database for ATI graphics processors. Added PCI DeviceID for RADEON HD 3850 AGP.
    * Improved G94 graphics processors support. Thanks to Jurgen in 't Zandt @ Point of View for providing NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT sample for testing. The list of G94 related improvements includes:
      - Added low-level fan control support for integrated PWM controllers of G94 graphics processors.
      - Improved driver-level fan control support for integrated PWM controllers of G94 graphics processors. Now RivaTuner can be used for switching between driver-level automatic and driver-level direct fan control modes on GeForce 9600GT series.
    * Improved RV6xx graphics processors family support. With this version RivaTuner continues tradition of providing workarounds for bugs existing in fan controller calibration routines of many reference AMD HD 38x0 BIOS images. The list of new workarounds and enhancements includes:
      - Extended list of tweakable automatic fan speed control rule parameters for RV6xx fan controllers. Now besides editing previously available thermal lookup and temperature transfer formula parameters RivaTuner also allows editing parameters of RV6xx fan controller's acoustic management system. Acoustic management related parameters include PWM hysteresis and PWM ramp settings, which are also improperly calibrated in certain AMD HD 38x0 BIOS images.
      - Now RivaTuner forcibly resets fan controller's PWM hysteresis settings when adjusting fan speed in fixed mode. This enhancement provides fine fan speed adjustment in fixed fan speed mode instead of stepwise fan speed adjustment mode on the systems affected by erroneously programmed PWM hysteresis.
      - Changed representation format for temperature transfer function's T slope parameter. Now the parameter is displayed and edited in percents instead of PWM ticks to simplify transfer formula readability.
    * Minor UI changes and improvements.

Title: RivaTuner 2.09 Released (2008-04-30)
Post by: Svet on 29-April-08, 21:39:22
RivaTuner 2.09 Released
(http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/Image3.gif)

Minor bugfixes:

    * The server no longer erroneously swaps RGB components and no longer causes On-Screen Display to be rendered in unexpected color under Direct3D10 when non-default OSD color is being used.

What's new:

    * Added ForceWare 175.xx drivers family support.
    * Updated databases for Detonator and ForceWare drivers. Added databases for ForceWare 174.40, 174.51, 174.53, 174.60, 174.70, 174.74, 174.82, 174.85, 174.88, 174.93 and 175.12.
    * Added Catalyst 8.4 drivers detection. Please take a note that ATI continues "old good" tradition of using the same build version of different driver versions, so both Catalyst 8.3 and 8.4 will be detected as Catalyst 8.3 or newer.
    * Updated Catalyst 8.4 certified SoftR9x00 patch script (for Windows 2000/XP drivers only).
    * Updated PCI DeviceID database for AMD graphics processors. Added PCI DeviceIDs for RADEON X1650 AGP and RADEON 3850 X2.
    * Update driver files database for 64-bit NVIDIA ForceWare drivers.
    * Unlocked previously available experimental AMD RV620 graphics processors family support.
    * Added experimental NVIDIA G96 graphics processors family support.
    * Added experimental NVIDIA G100 (aka GT200) graphics processors family support.
    * Added experimental driver-level multi-GPU fan control support for Quad-SLI systems. Thanks to Jacob Freeman @ EVGA for testing driver-level fan control with2x NVIDIA 9800GX2 system.
    * Now RivaTuner is able to detect driver version and display driver files info for drivers using multiple driver files and active non-primary driver file.
    * Added experimental clock frequency stress-testing for NVAPI overclocking interfaces. Please take a note that NVAPI's own stress testing is not ideal yet and it is not available for some GPU families (e.g. G80) or may work improperly for others. Due to this reason NVAPI clock frequency stress-testing feature is disabled by default, however power users may enable it using NVAPIClockTest registry entry.
    * Added set of technologies aimed to improve RivaTuner startup and usage safety in conjunction with other hardware monitoring and diagnostics related tools:
      - Added low-level PCI controller access synchronization protocol. The protocol serves for preventing possible PCI controller access collisions when multiple tools are being started and scanning PCI buses simultaneously (e.g. detecting supported hardware during OS startup). Please take a note that to take full effect the protocol must be supported by other tools used simultaneously with RivaTuner, so please ensure that you're using this version of RivaTuner with the latest versions of other monitoring or diagnostics related software products (e.g. Everest).
      - Previously used low-level I2C synchronization protocol is now also applied to driver-level thermal monitoring function calls to prevent possible conflicts between low-level I2C transactions and internal driver-level I2C transactions.Please take a note that to take full effect the protocol must be supported by other tools used simultaneously with RivaTuner, so please ensure that you're using this version of RivaTuner with the latest versions of other monitoring or diagnostics related software products (e.g. Everest).
      - Added hardware scanning synchronization protocol, aimed to optimize startup process and reduce startup time when multiple tools are intensively scanning hardware.
      - Now startup daemon routine displays warning message in case of driver load failure (e.g. when the driver is blocked by antivirus tool).
      - Startup daemon self-deinstallation technology is disabled by default now. The daemon no longer uninstalls itself from Windows startup when it fails to apply any startup settings (e.g. due to driver load blocked by antivirus tool). If needed, the technology can be re-enabled by setting DontUninstallStartupDaemon registry entry to 0.
    * Updated bundled RivaTunerStatisticsServer v2.6.0 utility:
      - Now OSD rendering routines are compatible with WPF based applications.
      - Now the server's manifest file specifies full administrative privileges requirement. If you're using Windows Vista with UAC enabled, it is recommended to create scheduled task launching the server simultaneously with RivaTuner to minimize amount of displayed UAC evaluation dialogs.
      - Changed sever's own OSD rendering behavior, now the server doesn't display 3D API usage information in the OSD when framerate display is not requested by a client application.
      - Updated pseudo-3D applications list.
    * Updated bundled D3DOverrider v1.6.0 utility:
      - Now the D3DOverrider's manifest file specifies full administrative privileges requirement. If you're using Windows Vista with UAC enabled, it is recommended to create scheduled task launching the utility simultaneously with RivaTuner to minimize amount of displayed UAC evaluation dialogs.
    * Improved launcher module:
      - Added 'Show item in tray menu' option to regular launch item editor. By disabling this option you may prevent some regular launch items from being displayed in RivaTuner's tray menu. This option is helpful if you're intensively use scheduled tasks and define many helper launch items, required only for scheduled tasks.
      - Now you may select 'All files' as file type when browsing for application associated with a launch item and this way start and non-executable file type (e.g. WAV or MIDI) registered in the OS. Please take a note that 'Restore settings after terminating application' option will not affect non-executable file types.
      - Now RivaTuner stores application specific event markers in the event history panel of hardware monitoring window, allowing you to analyze all item launch events and reasons (e.g. item launch due to pressed hotkey, due to scheduled task etc). This feature simplifies debugging complex dynamic hardware control algorithms programmed via scheduler module etc.
    * Improved scheduler module:
      - Now you may specify custom scheduled tasks names in the task editor window to improve scheduled tasks list readability.
      - Added 'Wait for application termination' option for 'Launch application' tasks, allowing you to program sequentional tasks execution if needed.
      - Now you may select 'All files' as file type when browsing for application associated with 'Launch application' task and this way start and non-executable file type (e.g. WAV or MIDI) registered in the OS. Please take a note that 'Wait for application termination' option will not affect non-executable file types.
      - Now RivaTuner stores application specific event markers in the event history panel of hardware monitoring window, allowing you to analyze all shceduled tasks events and reasons (e.g. scheduled task launch due to core temperature change from 50°C to 51°C). This feature simplifies debugging complex dynamic hardware control algorithms programmed via scheduler module etc.
    * Improved hardware monitoring module:
      - Now you may use 'Override group name' option in each data source's properties to define custom on-screen display group for it and override default OSD grouping rule if needed,
      - Now RivaTuner is able to detect PLL shutdown and swicth to bus clock on G8x and newer GPU families to provide dynamic memory clock frequency monitoring on upcoming G96 graphics processors family.
      - Now RivaTuner uses BIOS PLL information tables on G9x and newer GPU families to detect reference clock frequencies for core and memory PLLs if unknown GPU is detected. If needed, reference clocks can be redefined via [CrystalClock] section of RivaTuner.cfg file.
      - Improved SMART.dll hardware monitoring plugin. Now the plugin supports SMART temperature reading for up to 8 hard drives instead of 4 hard drives in the previous version.
    * Improved low-level diagnostic report module:
      - Now RivaTuner displays PLL table contents containing per-PLL reference clock frequencies for G8x and newer display adapter families in 'NVIDIA VGA BIOS information' diagnostic report category.
    * Unlocked undocumented SSAA and combined MSAA / SSAA antialiasing modes for G8x and newer display adapters.
    * Now you may change external I2C fan controller detection retry counter using ExternalFanControllerDetectRetry registry entry or completely disable external I2C fan controller detection by setting this registry to 0.
    * Minor UI changes and improvements.

What Is MAXON CINEBENCH?

CINEBENCH is a real-world test suite that assesses your computer's performace capabilities. MAXON CINEBENCH is based on MAXON's award-winning animation software, CINEMA 4D, which is used extensively by studios and production houses worldwide for 3D content creation. MAXON software has been used in blockbuster movies such as Spider-Man, Star Wars, The Chronicles of Narnia and many more.

MAXON CINEBENCH runs several tests on your computer to measure the performance of the main processor and the graphics card under real world circumstances. The benchmark application makes use of up to 16 CPUs or CPU cores and is available for Windows (32-bit and 64-Bit) and Macintosh (PPC and Intel-based).

The resulting values among different operating systems are 100% comparable and therefore very useful with regard to purchasing decision-making. It can also be used as a marketing tool for hardware vendors or simply to compare hardware among colleagues or friends.

CPUCalc 1.9.2

CPUCalc is an overclocking-calculator able to overclocking with many Intel and AMD processors.

You just need to set your wished clock and it calculates all other settings, for example. It automatically sets the correct CPU-RAM-ratio and Referenceclock:HTT-Ratio.

It´s also able to calculate the new TDP with the overclocked settings.

PhysX FluidMark v1.0.0

  PhysX FluidMark requires NVDIA PhysX drivers 8.08.01 or higher and the CUDA DLL (this DLL has to be copied in the benchmark folder if your Forceware drivers are < 177.79 or if you don't have a GeForce (Radeon, etc.)).

PhysX FluidMark is a physics benchmark based on NVIDIA PhysX engine. This benchmark performs a fluid simulation by imitating the renderering of lava. Real physics parameters such as viscosity are used. SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) algorithm is enabled to increase the realism of the simulation.

PhysX FluidMark can run in pure software mode (all calculations are done on the CPU), or in hardware mode. Hardware mode includes 2 kinds of hardware:

    * Ageia PhysX PPU
    * GeForce PhysX - GeForce 8/9/GTX200 graphics cards only

This benchmark exploits OpenGL for graphic acceleration and requires an OpenGL 2.0 compliant graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 5/6/7/8/9/GTX200 (and higher), AMD/ATI Radeon 9600+, 1k/2k/3k/4k (and higher) or a S3 Graphics Chrome 400 series with the latest graphics drivers.

The MSI 990FXA GD80 can not be overclocked with the latest versions of Control Center and Click Bios II.  I have earlier versions that do allow overclocking.  Is it allowed for them to be posted here?
