Title: Upgrade to Windows 8 From Windows 7 MSI GT60 0NC ... Help
Post by: Chen on 01-March-13, 09:56:02
I updated my GT60 0NC to Windows 8... I have few questions on updating the BIOS... Do i have to update the BIOS to WINDOWS 8 BIOS?

My Bios and Other Information are as follows :-

BIOS Version :  E16F3IMS.30M
Build D & T    :  07/06/2012 10:59:37
EC Version    : 16F3EMSI Ver4.05
EC Build        : 04/03/2012

ME FW Version 8.0.0.1351

Model Name : MS-16F3

Also My WIFI button over the key board doesn't work.. When ever I press the wifi touch button, I get a crossed wifi icon, no matter how many time i press i get the same crossed wifi icon (disabled).. But my wifi is working irrespective of the number of time i press the button... The button doesn't have any effect.

Also My Keypad has got some swipe function, like when i swipe my finger from each edge, an action occurs.. Thats good.. but some times it happens without swiping form the edge and that is annoying.

I installed a Fresh windows 8 formatting the Hard disk.

Any help or Information on these would be very helpful. Thank you.

Not only you don't need to update to a Win8 bios but you mustn't. It wouldn't work or brick your notebook when forcing.

Quote from: GT60 0NC site bios download section: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT60-0NC.html#/?div=BIOS&nbos=win8
- If the notebook you purchased has Win7 Bios installed, please DON'T attempt to update using Windows 8 bios (or vice versa). Failure to abide may result in bricking your system.

 - Although there's a bios detection program written to protect user from cross flashing the bios (Win7 to Win8 bios or vice versa), still DON'T experiment. Failure to abide may result in breaking your system.

For the Hotkeys to work you need SCM: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-19910.html

Thank you so much for the information :-)

I did try that SCM but still Wifi button doesn't glow anymore whether on or off.. And how many I press it just gives the wifi disabled Icon, even when Wifi is on.. This is the second time I Have installed the SCM driver.

Any other Idea? I think the driver is bugged and needs to be updated.. Cause after installing the SCM driver My eject key worked for a day but later did not, then after re installing it works now..

Try KLM (Keyboard LED Manager) for the glowing of the Key: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-19691.html

Try this SCM version: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-19670.html

Try latest WiFi driver: http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-19165.html

Finally make sure Intel ME is installed: http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-19231.html
