Title: Improve Nahimic Sound Quality with this Guide
Post by: crimsomred on 20-October-15, 19:21:08
Hi guys.

Most of us are not satisfied with the new sound suite Nahimic installed in ours new MSI PC´s, and laptops, but before your uninstall it or downgrade to Creative Cinema, you can try this tips that will make you love this software.
Let´s Begin.

THE PROPOUSE OF THIS GUIDE
Improve Nahimic Sound Quality and Sound Positioning in Games and Music, and make advanced settings personalizable to suit of the user.

WHAT WE NEED

THE FILES
The files what will be modded are under:
C:/Program Files/Nahimic/NahimicMSI/NSConfigurator

And we have two folders:
(https://copy.com/thumbs_public/yNACHKkoQjLnixVE/Captura%20de%20pantalla%20%283%29.png?size=1024)

DEVICES
This folder Store Profiles for each speaker type (Internal, external and Headphones). Select the Device what you want mod and open it with Notepad. In this case I change the External Speakers settings.
And we found the General features of Nahimic DSP. We have, Bass, Stereo Widening, Voice, Limiter and Input/Output volume Values.

(https://copy.com/thumbs_public/CgvsPJ7mUqiaFNNB/Captura%20de%20pantalla%20%287%29.png?size=1024)

Let's Explain this values.

BASS SETTINGS
BASS FREQUENCY
If you think the bass sounds bad.. you are right, the default value is too high for a sound equipment with a subwoofer, the value is expressed in Hz. Select the frequency of your desire. My personal setting is 80 Hz.
Name: <kNhSet BassBoostFrequencyHz Value=”125”/>
Value Expressed in: Hz
Default Value: 125

BASS BAND WIDTH
This control the Bass Band Widith. The value is expressed in porcentaje. The mínimum value is 0 (Wide Frequeency) and máximum value is 1 (narrow frequency).
Name: <kNhSet_BassBoostBandWidthOctave Value=”0.707"/>
Value Expressed in: Porcentage
Default Value: 0.707

BASS DEBOOST FACTOR
For fine tuning. This will affect the volume of bass effect proportionality. Positive Values decrease the overall volume, but prevent distortion in bass effect. Negative values increase the volume, but with a risk of distortion in the sound. You can write fractional values like “0.250” or “0.750”… etc.
Name: <kNhSet_BassBoostDeboostFactor Value=”0”/>
Value expresed in: DB
Default Value is: 0
-------------------------------------
INPUT / OUTPUT Settings
The values with “Stream” Word, affect overall sound volume (independent if Nahimic are Disabled). Values with “Master” Word, affect Nahimic when its Enabled.
Name:
<kNhSet_StreamInputGainDB Value=”0”/>
<kNhSGt_StreamOutputGainDB Value=”-6”/>
<kNhSet_MasterInputGainDB Value=”0”/>
<kNhSet_MasterOutputGainDB Value=”0”/>
Value Expressed in: DB
-----------------------------------------

VOICE Settings
The name of Voice settings have the Word “Clarity”. You can mod the frequency (High and Low), deboost Factor, and Presence. If you enable “Presence”(expressed in DB), be careful, this will decrease the overall sound for increase voice volume.
Name:
<kNhSet_ClarityPresenceGainFactor Value=”0”/>
<kNhSet_ClarityLowFreqHz Value=”500”/>
<kNhSet_ClarityHighFreqHz Value="4000"/>
<kNhSet_ClarityDeboostFactor Value=”0”/>
-----------------------------------------

STEREO WIDENING Settings
In this section we can change the frequency of work for Stereo Widening (expressed in Hz), wide the vocals and prescence of the stereo mix.
Name:
<kNhSet_StereoWideningVoiceGainDB Value=”0”/>
<kNhSGt_StereoWideningPresenceGainDB Value=”0”/>
<kNhSGt_StereoWideningLowFreqHz Value=”31.25”/>
<kNhSGt_StereoWideningHighFreqHz Value=”16000”/>
--------------------------------------------------

LIMITER
Enable or Disable Limiter. “0” its disabled. “1” it's Enabled.
Name:
<kNhSet_StreamLimiterState Value=”0”/>
<kNhSGt_MastGPLimiterStatG Value=”0”/>
------------------------------------------

Ok. We finish with the External Speakers. Now we mod the Gaming Profile in Audio Profiles Folder.

What will we found in this file?
Compressor Settings (frequency, Gain, Threshold, etc) far away for this, is useless. But.. wait.. we can activate some interesting features for positional audio. ;D

UPMIX
Yes, Nahimic have a hidden Upmix feature. But for a unknown reason not use it. The software limit the mix only for a virtual 5.1 surround sound. If you enable this feature, you surround sound will be improved and you can change the most interesting values. The Positional Sound.
Copy and Paste the next value.

Name:
<kNhSet_UpmixState Value="1"/>
Default Value: Nothing, because is not included in the file, but its in Windows registry.

-------------------------------------------

CHANGE THE POSITIONAL SOUND

The best of this software is you can change the position and number of the speakers.
We have a total of 12 speakers and two subs. Copy and Paste the next settings under "Game.nsx" file (Music and Movie work too)
The values are expressed in Degrees (0 to 180). The attached images represent some speaker setups for 5.1 and 7.1 surround systems, the values are only suggested, you can change this with your personal preference.

Name:
For Subs:
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionSubWoofer51 Value="0" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionSubWoofer71 Value="180" />

For Center:
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionCenter51 Value="0" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionCenter71 Value="180" />

For Front, 5.1 and 7.1
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionFrontLeft51 Value="30" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionFrontRight51 Value="-30" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionFrontLeft71 Value="60" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionFrontRight71 Value="-60" />

Rear 5.1 and 7.1
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionRearLeft51 Value="90" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionRearRight51 Value="-90" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionRearLeft71 Value="120" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionRearRight71 Value="-120" />

Side Left:
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionSideLeft71 Value="150" />
<kNhSet_ChannelPositionSideRight71 Value="-150" />

Default Value: Nothing, because is not included in the file, but its in Windows registry.

----------------------------------------------------

FINAL STEPS

1.- Save your Files
2.-Close Nahimic
3.- Go Control Pannel and Repair Nahimic (DONT UNNISTALL IT)
4.- Restart

And that's it all guys, more keys for mod can be found in Windows registry under Nahimic Key Directory. Experiment, change, and share your discovery with us.
Have Fun. :biggthumbsup:

Be careful with this kind of manipulation, it could have some unforeseen consequences, and don't modify the -6db in the profile "INPUT / OUTPUT Settings"

This guide is relatively safe. Do not be afraid to change the INPUT/output Settings. Only refer to values of "Volume In" and "Volume Out". Is recommended you don't change the value of "-6" because Nahimic can distort the sound if you use a higher amount of the Fx. For example. if you have all the input/output values in "0", and you like put the Bass boost at the max, your chances of have a distorted sound are high.

Dont try to change these setting in Windows registry because the chances that the software does not work well are high. But if for any reasons the software stop working or any other malfunction.. you always can reinstall Nahimic.
Have Fun  :)

I found out why they hid the upmixer; it's crap.

I'm absolutely PISSED at MSI for doing this after I spent this amount of money on their products. Get it together, or go back to Creative.

Dude....thank you sooo much!  On Windows 10, Nahimic runs at like 30% volume and none of the in-app sliders do anything.  It had become unbearable.  After editing volume gain levels though, I've got it working perfectly.  Thanks for saving me so much time and saving me from continued headaches!

BTW just a friendly reminder, these settings maybe have some effects on other settings.
Thus , you should be careful about it.

Still an issue of low volume when playing Videos/Movies in any video player (no issue with playing MP3s or playing youtube in chrome)
Tried the latest from MSI website (Audio driver 6.0.1.7960 + Nahimic 2.3.10)
Tried the latest from Nahimic support site (Audio driver 6.0.1.8010 + Nahimic 2.3.12)

Then I tried to follow this guide but I realize there's many files for internal speakers, each for a specific system.
I tried to create one for my GS60 2QE by following the same file naming convention in Nahimic:
GS60_2QE_InternalSpeakers.nsx
Copying it from another model.
Then changed the following in the Data section (towards the end of the file)
<SystemProductName>
 <Value>GS60 2QE</Value>
 </SystemProductName>
 <HWID>
 <Value>subsys_1462115C</Value>
 </HWID>
But I don't know which ID should go in the <ID><VALUE></VALUE></ID> section...

I tried to make some changes as described here in the guide and closed Nahimic, Repaired it, then restarted but no difference.

I think I give up on Nahimic!
