Title: Cant oc my cpu even when it says it is, msi zh77a-g43
Post by: waltobc2 on 24-April-19, 08:08:56
i got new mother-board after last one served well 6 years, always used a small oc on my i7-3770k to around 4.1 and never left the 60 C zone

now i got new msi zh77a-g43 h7 version

which after reading i should pick the z7 version for me to be able use the change clock i got from my 3770k version.

but i read that even my h7 could easly be oced to 4.0 - 4.1

i tried multiple settings over the oc section in bios, update my bios to the last version 1.A and even tried to use the  OC Geine II and yet when i run cpu burn test all 4 cpu lock at 3691, and even trying to set cpu at x39 puts it back on x37.

What im doing wrong?

That board has H77 chipset which you can not OC on. For OC you would need board with Z77 chipset.

wait what? really? so why i got all the option to oc in bios?

i can change the bios chipset from h77 to z77 on my board with my friend which is electronic engineering, would it work or im am doomed?
i wish i know that before, cuz from what i read in MSI it was cable to oc , also i dont need a big one :()

it does jump from time to time one or 2 single core , but when i set a cpu test to load it to 100% its stuck on x37

The fastest you can get that CPU on that board is 3.9 GHz which is max Turbo frequency. Max CPU ratio you can get is 3.9 with that CPU. As I said the H chipsets can not OC beyond Turbo speed. Examples: H67, H77, H110 etc. You can do an internet search to confirm what I said.

thats why im trying to get - that the cores will work always on 3.9
i disable speed step and turbo, change cpu from auto to x39 but yet it stay on x37.

what im doing wrong?

i mean as u said i cant do more "complex" oc, but i should be able to set those core to x39 always, and no matter what setting i do its stick to x37

Core ratio limit 1-2 cores 39, 3 cores 38, 4 cores 37. So max speed you will get on 4 cores is 3700 or a little less on that board. With your particular CPU it's slightly less.
