Title: MSI Afterburner - must it always be running?
Post by: dastiegen on 15-May-19, 22:28:57
MSI Afterburner:   Does it need to be always running?  Or does it permanently (eg in flash memory) set the card parameters?

I need to change the fan curve on a GTX 1080 card.  There seems to have been (?) an NVidia Control Panel app for things like this, but that is apparently now discontinued and all advice is to use Afterburner.

I can install and run Afterburner, but am not sure if it permanently changes the fan curve OR if I need to have Afterburner start and run with Windows every time.  In all the articles on using this app, this point is never mentioned.  In my particular case, getting it to start with Windows may be difficult since I run as standard user.

Afterburner needs to be running in the backround. It can't permanently change hardware settings.
