Title: Opinions on "Plug & Play Aware O/S" setting? (BIOS)
Post by: Grunberg on 18-December-03, 01:05:57
In the BIOS, there's a setting for "Plug & Play Aware O/S". Is it safe to turn this on for a system running Windows XP Home?

Hi
All our machines are set with this on, it lets them find and load all equipment plugged into USBs etc.

PnP OS is for Win9x/ME....
It's best to let is stay off for any higher Windows version then those....

I think, if the option is ON, Windows will give IRQ's to all PnP things. If it's off, the BIOS will do that instead

With Win9x/ME that's the way it works.....
NT/2000/XP can get into trouble (not saying they must!) when this setting is on.
Anyway, PnP OS setting only applies to ISA cards as far as I know, so it has very little use anyway.

I've been looing around the net to find some more info on this one, but didn't find much.. But Bas is right about this one

Plug and Play Aware O/S:
No for Windows 2000/Windows XP and newer
Yes for Windows 98/ME

And Microsoft recommends NO, so think I will change mine to no
