172800 DNS queries per day from RadiX AXE6600

I recently set up a RadiX AXE6600, and I put it into access point mode. Every three seconds, it queries dns.msftncsi.com twice and www.msftncsi.com four times. (This may have started before AP mode, but I didn't check then.) It repeats this over and over and over. I read that this domain is used in Windows for network awareness, though of course the AXE6600 is not a Windows device. None of my other devices (including router, access points, and Windows devices) query any domain this aggressively. I read that the ASUS RT-AC68W does this, and it can be turned off with telnet to disable the DNS probe.

Does anyone know why the RadiX AXE660 aggressively querying DNS? What is this feature for? Why 6 queries every 3 seconds? How to get it back off?

On the dashboard of the AXE6600 below shows the X icon for the Internet, though the Internet seems fine to me. Does the X indicate a problem? What exactly is the AXE6600 doing to check for this problem? I am wondering if it is not getting the result it expects, so it retries because it thinks there is an error.

Oh, indeed — I forgot to follow up with an answer. Support resolved it while handling the ticket I submitted about the issue, which had in fact been present since a previous firmware version. Everything has been running well for the past two to three months now, at around one query per minute.

Did you ever find a way to stop the router doing this? Its still happening with FW 753021

Same blooming issue as of 11/12/2025 on the latest firmware for the MSI Radix AXE6600. Every three seconds it fires off 1 (dns.msftncsi.com) and 3 (www.msftncsi.com) queries to those blasted domains :( It’s about 85% of all the queries! on my whole network, so something’s clearly not right. I’ve been going back and forth with MSI support by email, but sadly they haven’t been much help for a week now.

Looks like they have greatly reduced the calls in the latest Firmware! (75367) Thanks MSI!
