Bios- what ever shipped with board :bonk:
-------------------------------------

Hi all,

I'm having 2 issues with my system which may or may not be releated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And just a disclaimer, Im learning as I go.

1st issue- (easy)Can somebody give me link to the best bios/ drivers for my system- I'm a having difficulty navagating the msi web site.

2nd Issue (not easy)

I have been expierencing system halts/crashes whenever the machine does any type of full scan.- I was doing a full virus scan in Norton, and the scan gets about 75 percent way through, than machine locks up and reboots. I have not been able to complete a full Norton Virus scan, however I did complete a NOrton Virus Scan through the Norton ONLINE virus scan securty check site...and it checked out virus free.

Next I tried to run a scandick, the machine gets about 3 percent through the data check (I believe its step 5 in scandisk) and then just seems to freeze up.

I decided to format the drive. My friend knows alot abot 'bootit ng' and tried to format it using this. Again it got about 5 percent through and than just stopped.

I took the drive out and put it in my other machine and it formatted, scanned fine.

Oh and this board was directly hooked up out of the box. So i had whatever bios/ drivers that ship with board.

Thanks for any help possible.

Run Memtest86

If that doesn't show errors....then you need to try a better PSU....
I can't find a Vantec 550W....and the types that I do find talk about PEAK power....so I have doubts about your PSU....
You might want to try with an Enermax 465....see if the problem is still there or not...

Hi

Norton is not as compatable with latest boards and OS, we have had a few similar problems with Norton 2004, their tech support site tells you what wrong but not when they will fix it.

Other likely cause is the SATA connector, they need to be pushed fully home and square, with no sharp bends in cables. any slight misfitting to MOBO or HDD will cause the prob you have.

You will get all the drivers you need at

http://www.planetamd64.com/

hey thanks so much for your time...

on the link that you provided, which one should i install ????

sorry for being annoying here. just wanna be sure.

Hi

The first link is a good site all things aMD64, ALL latest drivers and updates are there to download. ie planetamd64

2nd link is MSI japan, look at the Bios version and number on the Live Update 3 prog, and if you see it on the Japan site, any newer stuff there will be OK.

the language is not native to me, but it is followable.

BAS is the man for Master2. What is best Bios BAS ????

hey thanks again so so much...

um....whats this live update program ? I noticed that at the msi download page, but the link seemed to be dead. Is live update a program that shipped with boar d?

It should be on your copanion CD, its a prog that runs every week or so, or you can click the icon, takes you to MSI, reads your comp, and suggest updates, just click install and it does the rest. Better to download from MSI, otherwise the one on CD will want to update itself when you run it. The Mainboard page, click utilities, and it is there, I think its at the bottom of the left hand column ( maybe?) just download it, then click the icon on desktop and follow links, you will be better to use it for bios updates,as the program (by Bas) makes a floppy with all the progs on it, plus you can make a rescue disk. Then in future all you have to do is overwrite the bios and flash progs on floppy to update new bios.
