2080TI Lightning Z going to safe mode/1350MHZ when stock cooler fans removed

Hi,

I created an account just to post my problem here.
I just installed the new bitspower waterblock on my lightning Z.
It took me many hours to realize that the GPU goes to safe mode (stuck at 1350 MHZ) when the stock fans are not plugged in...
I tried both bioses, even the new LN2 bios... doesn't work.

To make it work, I had to remove the fans from the stock cooler and plug them in the PCB while having the waterblock on.
It's quite ridiculous...

It's a card built for LN2 overclocking... of course A LOT of people are gonna remove the stock cooler.

MSI can you please fix this quickly with a new vbios?

Thanks

Hi flobelix,

It's 90.02.17.40.9E

No, that is useless.

I will pm you the beta anyway as I guess you haven't that already. Don't think that it will make a difference as it is only focussing on keeeping up clockrates without fans connected.

It's exactly the same vbios I have downloaded from oc.net
Thanks anyway for your help. But now I'm missing the VRM temp control very much. Looks like I installed the waterblock not so well and the VRM were like hot, I ordered some new thermal pads and now I cannot control these temps (((
Dunno what to do now whne I swap the pads (((

I don't know what you downloaded from oc.net. The beta vbios is a modification of the latest official vbios and share the same version number.

There is the same download link. Again, thanks for help, really appreciate it.
Is there any hope that MSI could issue another updates for the Lightning Z vbios?

Not really, so far MSI did not come up with final or different beta vbios for use without the original cooler. You can still contact them about it, customer requests are always the best: >>How to contact MSI.<<

Do you think they can help me alone with this VRM temp issue?

Is there a permanent fix now? Want to install waterblock tomorrow. If no please also send me link for the vbios update. Thanks. Hopefully MSI resolves this permanently.

Like this (you will need to adapt filenames, it is just an example):

For flashing use nvflash: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash/

note that you need to rename the unpacked file NV371MH.124 to .rom (e.g. 124.rom) for flashing.

If you saved the nvflash for windows .exe say under drive d: you can start it in a Windows prompt in administrator mode after you saved the .rom at the same place. First type d: (or wherever you saved nvflash and the .rom) and press enter. Now you changed to drive d: where you have nvflash in the root directory. Now start the flash with the following line: nvflash -6 124.rom (press enter)

Note that if using a 64bit OS you'll need to run the line nvflash64 -6 124.rom

Hello just installed my waterblock and I need that Vbios file.

Thank you in advance.

Dear all,

MSI provided a modified beta vbios for testing. It will disable any RGB working though. If you want to still try it send me a personal message and I will provide a link via personal message.

Hi I have a msi rtx 2080ti gaming x trio and its boost clock is stuck at 1350mhz. Is this vbios able to fix this problem? Is so can you send it to me? Thanks.

This thread only covers an issue with 2080TI Lightning Z cards when using a liquid cooler or anything else that replaces the original cooler. You have a different issue. Please open an own thread.
