3080 Gaming X Trio strange BIOS version

Hello.

Got my new 3080 Gaming X Trio and noticed really odd behavior.
1. In auto settings fans go to 100% in no time, temperature however is smth like 44 degrees celsius.
2. If I use manual fan config and temps go above 50 degrees, performance goes down, like a lot.
3. Strange BIOS version - 94.02.42.00.FB, wasn't able to find any mentions on the web.

So, what should I do? Flash 94.02.26.08.9A?

Keep in mind that flashing non-official BIOS's technically will void the warranty.
I would contact MSI directly about it. See : >>How to contact MSI.<<
Unfortunately there isn't much we can do here in regards to BIOS's.

But I'm talking about flashing official BIOS.

Hence the reason I suggest contacting MSI directly.
Something seems very strange in regards to your card.
You can try flashing the official bios from the site, but I'd probably contact MSI directly first.

Just got a trio with the same bios too, were you able to sort it out? Only other place that has info on it is: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/227722/227722 and seems to only have been released recently on the 20th

I've flashed low temp bios from official site, and it works way better.

Interesting, will definitely consider that then. Wonder if it's a refreshed 3080 trio BIOS? Just spoke to a friend of mine who had a sealed 3080 trio in Nov and it seems like default is the 94.02.26.40.9B (default). Is the other BIOS 94.02.26.08.9A much better? Also do you know if flashing the BIOS voids warranty?

Flashing official BIOS shouldn't void the warranty.
However, it's a shame that X Trio has so low PL BIOS.

Ya wish MSI would get off their ass and make us a bios that lets us increase the PL

Had i known this i would of gotten an FTW3 or a strix . Really disappointed in MSI.

I'm kinda had no choice. Supply is limited, and i've managed to get MSI for a reasonable price.
The only thing that keeping me from flashing suprim bios - warranty.

Hi,

I also have the 3080 Gaming X Trio and ran into the same problem.
The CUDA power limit is set to only 205W and if it reaches that it will throttle instantly.
The card is very cool at only 50'C and no matter the fan % it will behave in the same manner.
I've tried both BIOSs available for this card on the Official MSI page (https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/support/GeForce-RTX-3080-GAMING-X-TRIO-10G):
1. Low Noise BIOS (Default) Version 94.02.26.40.9B
and
2. Low Temperature BIOS Version 94.02.26.08.9A
And there is no difference in the power limit for CUDA load, it is still 205W.

The ridiculous thing is that you need to clock down the memory by -150MHz in AB to get it to not throttle.

I don't want to use the Suprim BIOS and void my warranty.
I need an official MSI Bios for this specific card that has the PL correctly set to at least 225W so it will not throttle with stock speeds.
Has anyone managed to get MSI to provide this?

could you tell me please what's the different between flashing BIOS via exe-file from official site and flashing via NVFLASH with the same vBIOS? May I flash Low Temp BIOS from official site and then rollback to the factory BIOS via NVFLASH if the first one will not bring me any benefit?

Hi,
The CUDA power limit is set to only 205W and if it reaches that it will throttle instantly.

And there is no difference in the power limit for CUDA load, it is still 205W.

Am I missing something but is that not about a 350 watt GPU or is CUDA power something different.

I guess the author was pointing out that regardless if you use the card in standard render mode or headless (no video outputs connected) compute mode, it still throttles at 205W.
