4 pin ATX connector

I may be asking a stupid question, but my son's just putting together a system using a K8T Neo with an AMD64 CPU. I noticed the board also has a 4 pin 12v connector as well as the standard 20 pin, to supply "12v direct to the CPU" according to the manual - I have always thought this was an Intel thing. So does the system need this to be connected? - he seems to have it running ok without whilst testing.

other msi boards wont power up without the 4 pin connector .. so yes deff plug it in it supplys the cpu with the power it needs

You need to connect both. 4 pin one is too power the cpu so the cpu will always have dedicated power. I wondered about this too and gave tech person a call and he said connect both and this is a must for athlon64 systems. I also noticed that some nforce2 boards have both connectors available like abit an7, same for those mbs, you need to connect both.

Good luck
