Hello,

RTX 5080 FE
9800x3d
MSI x870-p gaming

I have this issue that other people have shared, tried everything but nothing works.
When i boot for the first time my PC, my GPU is stuck in PCIE 1.1. If i restart immediately it goes to PCIE 5.0 as intended.

Curently i have in the BIOS :
- ASPM to L0s
- PCIE put in Gen 5
- Fch spectrum enabled
- Memory context restore disabled

Tried also to deactivate fast boot on windows, no fast boot options seen in my msi bios.

Getting desperate at this point that i have to restart every single time, clearly mob issue as the PC after restart works fine.

I would suspect a BIOS glitch that may be sorted with a BIOS update. It sounds like it is sticking in sleep or lower Power mode

I have the same problem. When I do a cold boot, the BIOS reads the PCIe value wrong and starts the system with the bus locked at 1.1, sometimes 2.0. This causes big stutters, lags, and finally a restart of the computer. Sadly, MSI’s support and attitude are the worst I’ve seen, so we will probably never get a BIOS update. Other companies released fixes a month ago, but MSI is still doing nothing. I suggest either changing the motherboard to anything that is not MSI, or just keep waiting.

Have you used the latest graphics card driver v. 576.02 to check whether the symptom could be improved. Would the card run with x16 5.0 when running GPU-Z Render Test?

Since I bought the card at the beginning of February, and the first driver was released on January 30th, I went through every version up to the latest one — and there was zero improvement. As I mentioned above, the fact that the BIOS has trouble detecting the bus and locks PCIe to 1.1 has nothing to do with Nvidia drivers. This is MSI's fault.

The first boot causes the card to get stuck at 1.1. After a restart, the card always works as 5.0, and GPU-Z confirms it.

By putting loading on the graphics card (E.g. GPU-Z Render test, Furmark, etc), the card shall work with x16 5.0. Have you put loading on the graphics card?

A cold boot blocks the PCIe bus in version 1.1, which causes horrible stuttering, and ultimately, leads to a system restart. After the restart, the computer continuously operates on the 5.0 bus, consistently during gaming and while browsing the internet.

I switched to the ASUS X870 TUF WIFI last week, and I’m finally free from that stupid PCIe issue that wasted five months of my time. MSI has done absolutely nothing. No fix, no statement, just pretending it doesn’t exist. This has been happening since last year, yet their support still acts clueless like it's the first time they're hearing about it.

I've been writing about this for weeks. The competition released a fixed BIOS over a month ago, and MSI is still asleep, pretending there's no issue. This is the first and last time I'm buying a mobo from them.

Same here, just too many fundamental issues with MSI mobos, USB4 ports malfunction, PCIE slots malfunction, all sorts of BIOS issues (boot loop) I never had with my previous ASUS mobo. To be honest I have switched to MSI to get rid of the infamous Asus Armory Create, because it is not only crap but drags down performance, but it seems there's just no better in terms of hardware/BIOS. I have heard just as many issues about Gigabyte if not more. ASRock? Their mobos literally cook 9800X3Ds. It is what it is. I will probably wait for a PCIE gen 6 motherboard to be released from Asus and next gen Zen 5 from AMD, then do a major rebuild. For now I am stuck in x4 bandwitdth in the first PCIE slot, pretty sure it's the mobo or the BIOS.

Old topic but I have just built a new PC on x670e gaming plus wifi with 9800x3d and 5070Ti. Am on the latest BIOS and have this exact issue described in the topic. Have wasted a week of my life troubleshooting until arriving to the PCIe 1.1 issue and then finding other ppl having the same issue for months. How awful.

May I ask you? Does this happen every time you cold boot?
Also, during this boot, have you noticed it takes longer to boot, and once in Windows your system feels sluggish?
Does a simple restart of the PC usually resolve the issue, or do you need to perform a cold boot again?
Is your BIOS based on AGESA 1.2.0.3x ?

I know you are asking the other chap but our issues is exactly the same from description. System is sluggish as it does not recognize gen5 and runs on gen 1.1 even under loads so even in windows it feels like running at 1 frame per second. This is on AGESA PI-1.2.0.3c, simple restart resolved this and the GPU recognizes gen 5 normally again.
I think it happens on most cold boots but also randomly thereafter - in my case, once very 5 to 10 startups.

I am using a Tomahawk X670E and have been experiencing these issues with all AGESA 1.2.0.3 BIOSes. It happens randomly, once every few cold boots. Oh and I am on an RTX 4080.
The Sluggish performance also seems to affect the CPU performance also as trying to start up any application like CPU-Z or GPU-Z during the episode takes longer than normal, also sometimes there is some screen corruption during the episode, but on rare occasions. I am trying to gather as much data as possible in few locations to probably provide info for people who need it.

The only fix for me was to use the January bios. In my case (PRO X870-P WIFI) I'm on A30. Anything later and it comes back, not even trying to update bios anymore. I'll wait for confirmation from others if it gets fixed on a stable release.
