5600G on B550m Mortar no boot and solid CPU debug led

As the title says. My daughters 5600G refuses to work on her new B550m Mortar motherboard. When booting up the PC stucks on a black screen and the CPU debug led is solid red. Both the CPU and the motherboard works. The 5600G works fine on a A520 motherboard, and the B550 motherboard works with both a 3700X and a 5900X. I even tried 3 different sticks of RAM. All 3 modells works with all parts as long as i don't pair the 5600G with the B550m mortar. So all the parts does work as intended minus this combo. The BIOS version on the B550m Mortar is 7C94v19 from 2021-12-20. So it definitely has support for the 5600G. Is this a common issue?

What graphics adapter are you using? The integrated one or a discrete one? You may need to enable or disable the integrated graphics.

I have tested this with both integrated graphics, and with a GTX 1050 Ti and my RTX 3080 Ti.
The thing is that the PC does not post. As soon as the PC gets power and the fans starts the debug led for CPU lights up and stays on and nothing happens.

This sounds like a bent CPU pin or a faulty CPU socket.
Did you check the socket with another CPU ? Is it a new board from retail?

Oh, and I would check if the CPU AUX power cable is plugged in correctly. No power - no boot.

The pins are fine!
If you read my first post again you can se that i tested at least 2 CPUs on the same bord. The B550m Mortar was in my own rig until 2 days ago. And under 2 days straight including today i have tried a total of 3 CPUs on it. 2 works, but not the 5600G. The same goes for the 5600G. I have tried it in a total of 4 motherboards now. One A520 DS3H, B550 Aorus Elite and my new X570S Tomahawk. The 5600G works on these 3 boards. So both the 5600G and the B550m Mortar works. But not together.

Do you have the latest BIOS? And the latest AMD B550 chipset? It can't be a bent pin or bad socket from what you said you have done.

Yep, the latest BIOS. Chipset drivers cant matter here because the PC does not post.

I'm seeing other people having the same problem with that particular CPU and the B550 chipset on multiple manufacturer's mobo's, not just MSI. So it's not just you. They claim compatibility but people are having problems with no posting or frequent crashes. It seems to be just that combination of CPU and chipset that has issues. Here is just one thing I found.

No, it wont. I tried 2 different 5600G (first was RMA'd since I suspected a defect) on a MSI 550 and ASUS STRIX 550, 3 different memory modules, 2PSU. The MSI won't POST, the ASUS crashes after 10secs. Cooling is more than adequate, BIOSes are up to date.

My suggestion is to keep the CPU. It is a fine one. Return the mobo if you can and get a different one with like the A520 or X570 chipset which don't seem to have the issues.

Hmm... I have had the B550m Mortar for more than year now. Bought it together with a 3600X in the autumn 2020. And it has worked great with 3600X, 3700X, 5800X and 5900X. So i wonder if msi has some issues with its BIOS for this motherboard.
When i search about his problem. I find a few post that talks about this problem. And almost all thread are with msi B550 boards paired with a 5600G.

Can you try this BIOS instead of

With BIOS 1.2.0.5 you may need you to try a Cmos reset with the PSU power off to post Short teh JBAT1 Jumper for 10 seconds with small screwdriver, and it may take a few minute to actually get past post self test.

You could also try this BIOS instead as it will work with your CPU

When i first installed the 5600G on the motherboard it was with that version of BIOS.
I have been in touch with a guy who works at a store that builds PCs and he said that they had higher than normal problems with 5600Gs and 5700Gs paired with B550. So i have decided to go back to the A520 motherboard for that PC. My daughter is glad to have a working PC again, but she is sad that the upgrade didnt work out.

There's not that much difference between the 2 chipsets unless you want to overclock things or have more than one video card. The latest SSD's may run faster on the B550 but that's about it. I'm a gamer and I'd be satisfied with the A520 because I never overclock anything and my drives are all SATA based.

Sad story. I have a 5600g and a Mortar b550m. It works, but first mortar didn't work out. Got a replacement from Amazon. Apparently I have been lucky on second chance

Yes, that i know. A520 is a quite good value chipset.
When i switched from my B550m Mortar to a new X570S Tomahawk i thought it would be a good idea to switch motherboard in hers PC to. She has a boring A520M DS3H right now. But it works and so its good for now.

You call that board boring but I looked it up and it looks pretty decent. It certainly has the video output for the integrated graphics covered. You usually don't see all 3 of HDMI, Display Port, and DVI ports on a mobo. My B550 board certainly doesn't have them. I've had good luck with boards from that manufacturer.

Oh, LOL, I'm not into all the RGB stuff so a plain board is it for me. My B550-A Pro has no lights and that's fine.
