8x data transfer on present high end video cards

There are already mainboards that supports this AGP data transfer speed. Can present NVIDIA cards support 8x data transfer in future? Is it question of video card BIOS and can be solved by updating BIOS or this speed is fixed to max. 4x and can't be increased ?

I have read some topics about expected increasing video card performance using 8x. I have also read that NVIDIA will launch G4 Ti series cards that supports that data transfer. What about present G4 Ti cards?

It is not something that can be fixed in the VGA bios, it is a hardware design matter.


There is not going to be a huge leap in preformance from AGPx8 just like AGPx2 wasn't much fatser than AGPx1 and AGPx4 wasn't much faster than AGPx2.


Even today there is no card that is limited by AGPx4 or that would even seriosly lose preformance from AGPx1.
