Dear members, I am interested in small-size PC. I'd like to connect a data acquisition board with PCI slot. The size of this board is 100(W)x220(L) mm. I have a question: can I connect this board to MSI Hermes 845 barabone, o there is not enought space in this computer? I will not connect FDD, but there may be limitations becouse of CPU, cooler and aluminium constructions of the case.
I have no ability to look at this barebone before I buy it, and I need a small PC I could carry it in one hand (other hand will be used to carry a monitor) :). Thank You.

Hi,

The length might be a problem. I designed a PCI card a while ago to fit the older MS-6215 barebone system, and the default card size my PCB software gave me (about 150mm long) was slightly too long for it :(

The internal layout of the Hermes 845 is a bit different, but 220mm is probably still too long.

I'll try to measure a system at work tomorrow if I get a chance.

Cheers

Hi,

Bad news! The maximum length available for a PCI card is about 170mm So a 220mm card isn't going to fit. :(

The CPU fan (mounted on the rear side of the CPU) gets in the way, so if you could do without the fan....

I don't know if there's any more space in a Mega PC, although I doubt it somehow.

Maybe you can find a smaller data acquisition card!

Cheers
