I have a 5090 Trio from MSI
My first card was on a water-block and the cord melted. I got an RMA for it and now I have a new card.
I also changed my motherboard at the same time. I have alot of experience with trouble shooting computers. From what I can tell this card that MSI sent me is a POS. The system benchmarks way under the standard on 3d-mark on all different GPU tests. It crashes running almost every gaming title that I play. This includes anything from MC no shaders to Counter-Strike to Rendering and CAD. IT CAN NOT RUN DEMANDING SINGLE PLAYER GAMES. The card also it is a much higher utilization percentage than I feel it should be on both HW monitor and Nvidia. Under-Volting the card on multiple different curves doesn't seem to change much and yes my drivers are up to date. The card is also always hot...

I have no glass on my case and the window in my room is open almost constantly. I live in Canada so the room is always below 22 degrees.
BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. My RAM is a little unstable but I seem to have gotten that sorted. MSI told me they couldnt help and that they would pay for my shipping of the RMA this time . I really need the computer atm so I can not RMA it at this time. MY windows was corrupted a few months ago and I factory wipes the SSD's and I have left it fairly unoptimized as I was having terrible stability issues with RAM before I switches motherboards.

If anyone has an ideas or questions let me know!

The build is:
CPU: 9950 X3D
Motherboard: MSI MEG ACE MAX
Memory : Patriot Viper Elite 5 Ultra DDR5-6400 CL32 (running 4 sticks at 5600 I need it for productivity)
SSD: Main ssd is a 990 Pro
Other SSD's: Kingston NV3 2TB x2
Graphics Card: MSI GAMING TRIO OC 5090
PSU: Seasonic PRIME 1300

Even cranked to the full 600 watts, it should not get over 86

This is not mine but this is how the case works. The gpu is horizontal in the motherboard but vertical so there is no sag. It is actually really efficient.
You can still try turning the chassis so that the card is actually horizontal and see if it changes anything. It may be that, or just bad cooling on the GPU itself and RMA may help.

Hello,

You should do this as your card in a vertical placement is not efficient for the heat pipes, the heat exchange / condenser is the lower end of the card so you currently have it working against gravity.

Just wanted to add that I've seen a few cases where people had quite a lot higher temps due to this specific case design.

Not all GPUs work well in it, many have dropped 10c+ just turning the case (Defeats the purpose of the case, but it's a good test to see if it's just a design issue with card model + case, as if it is, RMA likely wont help here as i suspect the replacement will do the same.

Not sure if this is OPs

But thermaltake tower 300 looks similar and is the one i remember seeing quite a few people mention having issues in, where if they turned the case, it fixed.

Seems thermaltake has quite a few versions similar to the Tower 300, with users have reporting similar experiences in all. Completely depends on the GPU it seems, if it likes the mounting orientation.

I have the 900 which is no longer in production. It is identical to the 300 setup wise. I am in the middle of exams so I have been MIA. I put the GPU is my friends tower and it was black screening(I now think this was a wattage issue). I ended up completely filling my resevoir for my cpu so I could put it on its side. The GPU is above average in FURMARK and 3dMark. That is without any optimizations. I was very hesitant to do this due to the orientation of the cpu pump and pipes.

Which PC case model is this?
It is the thermal take "The Tower 900"

They are no longer being produced.

I will be putting a water block on now so the thermal issue is of no concern long term.

Thankyou All

yes you are correct. It is completely stock and the issue is only when the case is upright.
Furmark is going from 10.8-11.1k to 14.2-5k on 4k FURMARK2
Perfect, glad you found the issue.

Was mainly clarifying for anyone who runs into the same issue in future and might see this.

I have seen quite a lot of people having issues in a similar way. Which sucks since you already own the case and it does look nice.

This case is specifically designed for watercooling custom loops and that is what I will be doing. If you buy this case without doing watercooling it is a waste as it is huge and 70lbs or smt. I just didnt want to void warranty on a fried gpu as this one is an rma of a 5090 that was on a waterblock. Once I put it on a waterblock I will not have the issue!

No its not, about 2 years ago we asked MSI to run tests on the GPU in this config, and it was found to be the worst way to mount a GPU for heat dispersion.
Hanging the GPU in that position, but with the IO at the bottom, was found to be a much better option
