how do I know the memory i have is compatible with my x570 gaming carbon

Check the compatibility page on the product site.
But if it works then it works..

Unfortunately the parameters on this information are super outdated. I believe that the new AGESA makes this possible, but MSI itself has not updated the information table for the manboard since 2018. Contact MSI support and ask them for more information.
Buying memories that aren't compatible is not only an adventure, it's also a waste of money.
Better to go within the compatibility matrix and not have a headache.

Hi guys, new here just signed up.
My current system is B450M Mortar MAX with a Ryzen 1700X running the latest beta BIOS. (7B89v2E3(Beta version)
I am able to boot into windows with my RAM XMP profile of DDR 3600 CL16 without any issues.
I can also get into windows by changing RAM frequency to 3667 and windows runs just fine.

At DDR 3733Mhz I can only get into the BIOS and windows will not load.
Will a BIOS with AGESA 1.2.0.5 help and if so where can I download this BIOS has there is none for the Mortar MAX on MSi support page. Thanks

There's your limitation right there, Ryzen 1000-series. The integrated memory controller inside the CPU has gotten better with each generation, and the 1000-series IMC wasn't such a high performer yet. Meaning, in those days, you were lucky to reach DDR4-3600, something that is usually a piece of cake for a Ryzen 3000-series or newer. Also, the 1000-series isn't bottlenecked in any way by DDR4-3600, so you should just stay with that for stability's sake and be happy with it. You are clearly at the upper limit of your IMC's capabilities, and i wouldn't push it, it's close to the edge.

Yes you are correct, if there is any limitation it is the IMC on the 1700X has the Micron E-die RAM I have is good for +4400 if the CPUs IMC and mobo can support it.
I am aware of the hardware limitations of first Gen Ryzen CPUs.

Since the board does post/boot at DDR 3733 and passes all tests that I have run at DDR 3667 flawlessly (Cinebench R23/R20, y-cruncher etc) I was hopeful to get DDR 3733
to run. Running my RAM at 3667 did improve scores in several benchmarks including 7-Zip.

The more important issue for me is, why are the B450 MAX series boards without AGESA 1.2.0.5 BIOSes when all the other MSi B450 boards have updates?

7zip is pretty much useless as a benchmark, i prefer WinRAR bench when it comes to compression benchmarks, but even that depends a lot on what background tasks are running. But it is more reliable in my opinion. Anyway, in those extremely RAM-sensitive benchmarks like 7zip, you have to be aware of what kind of percentage you're looking at on the performance increase, not just the raw results.

For example, on my old PC, when i went from 2x 8GB Micron Rev. E DDR4-3200 15-17-17-35 to 2x 8GB Samsung B-Die DDR4-3600 16-16-16-36, my scores in WinRAR went from 11305 to 11811. Wow, a full 500 points more. But wait a minute, let's calculate the percentage... that's only 4.5% faster in WinRAR bench. Despite having 5 GB/s higher values in read/write/copy and 2 ns lower RAM latency in AIDA64. So when you then put this into perspective and look at workloads that are not so RAM-responsive, you're looking at maybe 2% higher performance, from a full 12.5% higher (400 MHz higher) RAM frequency.

Now you are trying to go from DDR4-3667 to -3733, that's 1.8% higher RAM frequency. So you have 10-fold less performance improvement. In RAM-sensitive benchmarks, this should amount to maybe 0.5-1% performance increase, and with more "normal" workloads, nothing at all (margin of error).

Furthermore, Cinebench is not exactly a RAM stress test. You can check out my thread, RAM explained: Why two modules are better than four / single- vs. dual-rank / stability testing, at the bottom i link some proper RAM stress testing tools like GSAT. I will repeat my stance, i would stay at DDR4-3600. It's never good to be on the edge of what is possible. In the summer for example with higher ambient temps, you can then have bit flips or other problems. You should always leave headroom for different circumstances.

There was a bug in the code and some of the bioses got removed. They are slowly working through it.

Has I already stated the system is 100% stable at 3667. However I don't run those settings daily ie 24/7. I run 3600 CL16 with my own custom timing tweaks.
If i could get the system to run at 3733 it would just be for a few HWBOT runs to improve a few personal records that I hold there with my 1700X with Air cooling.

I don't use R23 to test RAM stability for that I use Testmem5 Anta777 or 1usmus settings for a quick test.
y-cruncher pi 2.5b is the best test I found overall for testing IMC stability. Thanks for the Info though.

Do you know why there is no AGESA 1.2.0.5 Bios for most of the B450 Max boards?

Looks like someone from MSi may have seen my post. I checked today - Update to AMD ComboAM4PIV2 1.2.0.5 is available. for the B450M Mortar Max.

Did you install the RAM in the system yourself?
Have you installed the RAM in the correct RAM slots? This should be A2 and B2.

Many users fail to run XMP because they install their RAM incorrectly.

IF you have installed your RAM correctly then you need to be more specific with detail specs of the RAM you using and a picture if possible with the sticker label
With ZEN 1 and 1700 anything above 2666 is also not guaranteed. Although my 1700X had no problem going to 3200 and above.
