Another 2.5 Bios issue

I recently downloaded the New 2.5 bios from MSI for the K7N420 motherboard. I Flashed it, and completed successfully. After I shut down the machine, reset the Cmos, and start it back up setting the bios settings to their original settings, I tried booting Windows XP off of my hard drive

I got a STOP error in acpi.sys

Rebooted again and got a different Error

Thankfully I made a backup of the old bios, I flashed the board back to bios 2.4, shut it down, reset the cmos, and started it backup setting the bios settings to their original settings, Just Like I did with 2.5. Booted it with no Problems.

For the hell of it, because I'm that stupid when It comes to Things like this, I flashed it again to 2.5. Same thing happened. I also tried both default and performance bios settings with no results. and for the Final test, I took out my harddrive and put in a clean one and attempted to Fresh install Windows XP. I have 3 WinXP CD's lying here. Not one of them would install WinXP. It would give me a 4 Error about ksecdd.sys. I tried all three disks in two different CD players using my bios settings, and MSI's Performance and default settings, none of them would install.

When I flashed it back to 2.4, all three CD's would install using any of the three above bios settings. Also sticking in the original hard drive and booting from it would also result in the disk booting again.

My Config is a K7N420 with an AthlonXP 2100+ Processor, a Visiontek Xtasy Everything, 2 256MB sticks of the Manufacturer Recommended Micron Ram, an IBM 60GXP HD, A Liteon 24x cdrw and 16x Dvd, attached to a 300w Power supply.

hi

when you first rebooted did you reenable acpi

in the bios as niether default or hp turn it on ?

when you tried new disk did you change reset configuration data in pnp to yes?

but it does not sound like a good idea flashing at the momment

There is no setting for ACPI. IPCA was enabled. APIC was Enabled at Version 1.4 exactly like Bios 2.4 was. Even if ACPI was disabled, it still should install XP with an APM kernel instead of crashing before even getting to the text setup portion of WinXP install.

I tried Reset Configuration data and it still would not boot.

Yeah Deathlizard man, direct all posts to the other thread from now on. I have had very similar problems to you. I have not tried to reinstall or anything, but when trying to boot into XP it comes up with a blue screen and an ACPI error stating that the system BIOS does not support it. Okay, right, sure it doesn't...

I also got the error in the acpi.sys file, not to the mention the ntfs.sys file! Where did that come from..? Something is definitely amiss here with this 2.5 version BIOS for the K7N420 from MSI. This may be the worst release yet! I can't believe the various problems that have surfaced from the recent BIOS revisions MSI has released for this platform.

I'm glad the web site is looking snazzy and all now, but the quality of the BIOS releases needs way more of a make over..
