Are hinge issues still a thing?

Are the broken hinges still a thing with the 2020 series? I'm currently looking at the GL65 Leopard and the GF65 Thin, do any of these laptops have known hinge issues?
 
For the new laptop of 2020, I think the hinges have been redesigned, and there should be fewer hinge broken problems.
 
serious problem without warranty. Repair cost € 177. Around $ 200 . (MSI assistance Italy)
 
GE75 Rider, one year using and hinges start doing snapping sound already. Tring to get that fix before will go off totally but MSI service ignoring me and threatening if I will send laptop and is no needed to be fixed they will charge me 100 EUR. But I'm sure it will crack on some point so probably need to wait hope it will be still on warranty period.

Yes, it took 2.5 years before they broke but I would expect more from MSI. They have a great software but their hardware is made of poor quality products. Not sure why the R&D department decided to ignore this fact. My next laptop will definitely NOT be MSI. I am done with them.
 
Bought an MSI PS63 on 31 December, 2019. About 3 months later I started hearing clicking at the bottom left of the screen when it opened and closed. Yesterday (a couple weeks after the warranty ended), the left hinge completely self-destructed. It seems to be designed in a way that puts a ton of force on some really thin plastic bits and adhesives... I've been really careful with this thing since I got it because it doesn't feel particularly well engineered (sqeaking and creaking plastic all over).

It's a bit of a nightmare: well over a thousand bucks for something I had planned to last me over 5 years. Now I get to decide if I want to live with a broken laptop that won't open or close, or spend another thousand for something new. My wife's macbook seems indestructible by comparison. Don't buy this laptop.

And about the broken hinge, send a ticket to contact the official MSI support about this.

Right hand hinge broke 14 months later - unbelievable. Plastic parts shattered into many small pieces. Shutting the laptop now causes the lid to separate from the bottom.
Laptop expert examined it Sunday Jan 31 - the hinge is extremely tight. That caused the breakage. He tried to loosen the bolt that attaches the metal hinge to the laptop, but we did not have the proper tool to so it. Looks like it needs a Smurf wrench. He said it was definitely a manufacturing defect.
Why, after 14 months, did the hinge get so tight? Is it designed to get tight over time? (/s)
Got it at Costco - they add 12 months to MSI warranty. However, they contacted MSI, MSI said it was not a manufacturing defect, therefore Costco won't cover it. So much for that garbage.

Any ideas on which non-MSI laptop she should get?

The exact same thing just happened to me yesterday.
Did you manage to do something about it? I have looked for a hinge cover replacement on internet but I have to buy the whole metal cover to get it and I think that is ridiculous because it is intact!

i think it just how you look after it, trust me look after your gaming laptop like it your new born baby and it would go a long way and the hinge is not the problem at all it the user and how you look after it.

Grannie did look after it like a new born baby. Several knowledgeable laptop people examined the laptop and said the design of the hinge was horrible. Many others on the net say the same thing.

She does/did not game - she does/did not use it a lot. She liked the 17" screen and the brightness. She used email, browser, and occasional word processor to read doc files - nothing else.

She used her previous laptop - less than half the cost of the MSI - for five years, then gave it to the grand-kids. The one previous to that also lasted five years then she gave it away to a school.

I contacted MSI and said I had pictures of the damage and asked them for a rough estimnate of the cost to repair. They didn't want to see the pics. They told me to mail it to MSI and then they would tell me how much it would cost. If I didn't want it fixed, I'd have to pay for them to mail it back - plus $69 diagnostic fee.

MSI sucks.
 
Frozen hinge is still a thing for GE75 Raider purchased 11/2019, hinge froze 2/2021. Costco refuses to fix under their extended warranty because they state MSI refused to include under their 1 year warranty so they refuse to fix it under their extended warranty. MSI wont own up to it being a manufacturer defect and will only fix it at my expense and Costco in some perverted game of he said/she said refuses to stand behind their warranty. Please consider when purchasing MSI laptops. I had the same response from MSI as Botsk
 
Mine breaks after.... 14 months.. bought jan 6th 2020. Trying my luck with MSI customer service. If legal action could be taken for nintendo/microsoft/sony drifting issue, i dont see this any difference
 
Let us know how it goes for you. I predict the same response I got and an earlier post got which is pay for it to be shipped to MSI and then they will give you an estimate for how much it will cost to fix it. :( I hope you get better:pompom:
 
Definitely, an issue, on my PS63 right hinge started to tear off the screen in less than a year, had to get the lid replaced on warranty. The next thing I know - in 3 months or so, the left hinge starts to crack of the screen. I get this is a very thin and lightweight laptop, but that's not expected behavior. The problem is that the aluminum plate on the back is so thin and wobbly, I'm not sure I can fix it with m3 screws through the lid
