More the 200+ watt Power Draw the 5900X can hit I have not even started to push mine in OC testing yet and am hitting 195 Watts I believe AMD have a hard maximum limit of 220 Watts so the 5900X is already close to that out of the box with no tweaking to boost all Core performance. I am not sure if your board can actually supply that amount of power to the CPU. So you may end up Power limiting the CPU,

Now as to the second concern Memory the 5900X works best with Memory of 3200 to 3600 and Memory support higher than 3200 is very limited or non existent.

Prices will vary quite a bit depending on location. Having said that....

The MSI B550 Tomahawk is basically the middle of the road board. It's not the absolute best, but it's not the worst.
The MSI B550 Gaming Plus is also right there with it.
Lastly, the MSI B550-A Pro is basically the bottom end of the spectrum for the B550 series.

The biggest difference is the Tomahawk has all the same as the other 2, except it also has 5+ optical SPDIF audio output, 2.5G and 1G lan ports (dual lan), but it also has 2 LESS USB 2.0 ports on the back panel.

Basically, if you don't need the 5+ optical SPDIF audio, dual lan, then either the Gaming Plus or the -A Pro will work fine for you needs.

I live in the USA, and the B550-A Pro is $140, while the MSI B550 Tomahawk is $170. Just to give some price reference here.
so obviously going with another brand is the best choice

I dunno, that's for you to decide....however....

https://www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-amd-b550-motherboards B550 Tomahawk - Best Mid-Range board
https://tech4gamers.com/best-b550-motherboard/ B550 Tomahawk - Best ITX board

That's coupling in the price too, since most of the other boards in those reviews are much more in price.....

I get that you don't like us saying you should get another board. Then don't. Throw that chip into your B350 PC Mate and move on. I think I can pretty much attest that most of us here have no care. We're just trying to provide recommendations that will provide you with the best experience.
It's totally fine if you want to go to another vendor. Just remember that most of the vendors have the same general experience at given price points.....so buying the cheapest board from any vendor and trying to outfit it with a CPU that is 5 years later, will most likely not provide a great experience.

BIOS update not working on my b350 tomahawk for my 5900x

I can get to the bios screen but nothing past that. I cannot boot into windows, the screen turns off upon rebooting. However, if I hit ctrl-alt-del the computer will reboot, so its not completely frozen.... will need to wait for bios to get out of beta.

Hopefully MSI will see this.
I know there are probably dozens of posts about this already, but no harm in making another one I say.
I can see you are rolling out Ryzen 5000 series bios for older boards already. Like my friends B450 has a beta out that works fine.
But this board doesn't have one yet, and the word on the street was we were to expect one in April. My board however, still waiting. Other manufacturers have had theirs for months now for similar x370 boards.
Can we get at least an ETA? I just think it's amazing that our older 370 boards can have the latest and greatest performance by upgrading to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU prior to the launch of the AM5 platform.
But I don't like being last in line, it makes me want to just buy a new board, but I shouldn't have to just because I'm impatient.
Thanks for paying attention!

Remove one memory stick see if you can boot with a Win install disk also try a coupe of Clear Cmos.

You really need to do a Clear Cmos before inserting a New CPU

There is a good chance the new bios had Defaulted to UEFI Bios where previous bios were CSM as the Default.

So you were 100% correct but I had no clue what UEFI BIOS and CSM BIOS was. I removed memory stick and did clear cmos. AN HOUR into constant reboots, i stumbled upon that bios option under the WINDOWS OS category. I selected CSM instead of UEFI and FINALLLYYY i booted into windows.

Also, my clear cmos jumper wasn't working (I think?) so finally i removed the battery and the cmos for sure cleared (i think?)

anyways, i finally have it running yikes, i thought it would take 15 minutes

Good if you want to avoid that happening again you can convert to UEFI How to convert MBR to GPT drive to switch BIOS to UEFI on Windows 10 | Windows Central
And now you booted you can set up the Curver optimiser for best performance.
Ryzen Master can do that for you now. takes a lot of the guesswork out, and you get better performance and lower temps once it is completed.

So... anyone brave enough to update their board? I have an x370 Gaming Pro Carbon and really want a 5700x CPU. The "beta" scares be though...

@ Alan J T

Thanks!! i have alot to learn, but very good tips. your prev message encouraged me to go back and work on the rig instead of waiting for yet another bios update, and now i'm running 5900x over 1700! cheers

it shows green but updated and deleted obviously on the support page
Go to that page. At the bottom there's a "1.2.0.7" button/link. Click it, and find the corresponding BIOS....ie E7A34AMS.AN2 and download and install that.
