B650i restart issue - tried new memory

B650i with newest bios/7700x/corsair 6000 c30 -CMP32GX5M2B6000z30 (ddr5 on board support list)

Freezes on restarts at rated ram speed(6000 or 6200) but restarts fine when the ram speed is reduced to 4800.
Ive tried memory context on/off and ram power down on/off in different combinations but no change.
The memory runs perfectly in windows at 6200/6000 with expo or manual settings


Procedure, click restart in windows - monitor powers down pc keeps power and orange ram LED glows.
Only way forward is to hold the power button down for 5 seconds until it shuts down and then press to restart normally.

Also tried this in Linux and same result. Will also not restart from bios, click save and restart, goes to black screen and hangs.


Its done this from new but I just replaced the ram thinking this was the problem but it persists.

Is there a future BIOS update that can fix this? I havnt logged it with MSI support as yet

Hello there, it is worth to try to do a manual ram overclock instead of just using the EXPO option.
My PC is also affected by this restart problem and I have been observing this issue for over a year now, all forums and places on the internet and this is the only fix I have saw that can have a 50/50 success rate outside of starting to change multiple components, ram kit, CPU, mainboard.

Some users managed to fix the restart issue like this doing a complete a to z manual ram overclock, both links are the same fix only difference is the ram kits used so they had different values to copy down and use for their own settings:

So manual OC of your own ram kit just to the same values that your own expo profile sets but doing this without actually activating the profile.
CPU NB/SoC Voltage: maybe 1.2500 V - (this is only one you play around with with 250 up or down, 1.1750 or 1.2000 or 1.2250 or 1.2750 max 1.3000 ideal the lower the better but 1.2500 is a good middle start)
The rest you will copy from your own EXPO kit: all the timings, sub-timings, all the voltages: DRAM Voltage, DRAM VDDQ, DRAM VPP, CPU VDDIO. just like your own ram kit sets with the expo profile.

PS:
*Always use F10 key to save bios settings that way it always registers the save.
*Change values in bios by using NumPad's +/- or PageUp/PageDown if you want to adjust cell menu values.
*If you ever screw it up (but I really doubt it) and pc won't post then just reset bios to default (short the clear CMOS jumper or CMOS battery removal method) then you start again from beginning.

Thanks for your help. I tried it(putting the timings/voltages in manually) and got the same - yellow LED freeze result. I will try changing the voltages a little, to see if that helps
I used my phones camera to copy the EXPO settings, which was faster then writing them down.
Frustrating problem and the b650i board performs so well except for this problem.

Remember to have the actual EXPO off and yeah play around with the SoC Voltage, even try 1.3000.
Also give the ram time to train, upwards of 5 minutes.
With that said this is a 50/50 try so yeah good luck.

Although I'd prefer not to run the SOC this high - and it may cause issue when I go I sell this system (i sell and buy every 2-3 yrs)

This is as high as the SOC can run - red in bios.

Does this show it as a 7700x or motherboard problem?

This is as high as the SOC can run - red in bios.
This is the value your own EXPO kit would have set when activated. It isn't ideal yes but AMD spec'ed it like that to accommodate 99% of the systems out there.
You should be fine running 1.3 for many years, at least that is what AMD claims.

Does this show it as a 7700x or motherboard problem?
I suspect it is either the integrated memory controller of the CPU or the ram kit or both needing the extra power for stability. Most likely you got a bit of a lazy chip on your hands when it comes to memory interactions, still in the validated area but at the limit.
 
Did your system hang on POST code 0d on reboot?
If yes, it might be related to hardware monitoring software (HWinfo, HWMonitor, iCUE and so on).
