Unofficial release of special EC firmware for customers who are interested to overclock their GPU as discussed on notebookreview forum.

I've attached EC firmware for MSI GT60 (16F3) & GT70 (1762) laptops (sorry, barebone is not supported).  (0NE, 0ND, 0NC models ONLY)
The result is increased GPU performance due to reduced throttling, however heat will increase.
This is an one-time release and there will be no further releases.

1. Update EC in DOS
2. EC Reset (Disconnect AC and battery)
3. Power on the system

Please do not flash these onto barebone products as they will be bricked.
There's no support given on this release, however positive/constructive feedbacks are welcomed, thank you.

Sincerely,
Warner

Update Information:

EC Versions T16 are Win7 EC
EC Versions T17 are Win8 EC

You are welcome, this is just a test version to see how it is, no further release will be available.
EC doesn't get updated often, and it is fine to use it continuously.

Hi Warner,

I'm running a GT60 w/ gtx680

I've flashed the above EC but it has not had the desired effect. I can overclock the core, but only if I enable turbo first, and memory OC works fine regardless of using Turbo - this is no different than what I could do with the original EC. Also Afterburner still shows a limit of +135 on the core and if I overclock in any sig way, ie. +100 core,  I get heavy throttling despite adequate temps (83C) (same as before this EC update).

I've also checked my bios on startup and it confirms that this EC is installed with a date of 10/19/2012.

The power and heat factors are the major concerns affecting the overall overclocking performance.
EC is modified to provide better use of power by the CPU/GPU, other things are not modified such as GPU limit.
You will need to complete the rest of procedures to achieve the goal.

Thank you. Do you know change log and differences between 30m and 30o ? :). Probably gtx 670mx and 675mx support ?

Good work :). 3dmark it is not so good tool to show throttling issue :). I have compared old EC and new beta EC in Mechwarrior online. Now I can overclock VGA and there isn`t frame drop every 5 seconds . Even FPS is much more stable and higher. Good work msi.

my temps while gaming are a lot higher after flashing this EC. before, no sensor would read higher than low 80s. Now, I am getting into the 90s. It doesn't sound like my fans are working as hard. Did you guys adjust the fan thresholds with this update?

that being said, so far I haven't detected any throttling, although i still have some more testing to do.

It is possible that the temp can go up due to less occurrence of throttling, however we can look into the fan speed issue to verify the speed.

Thanks, please do. I was running into a situation where it seemed I would have a run away temperatures as they just steadily kept climbing once the fan didn't go past a certain speed (I think I closed the game after 91 Celcius on the THRM sensor in CPUID hardware monitor (GPU and most of the cores were between 88-90). The only other time I've ever seen the temperatures not seem to even out was when I first got the laptop I tested with prime95 (w out turbo fans at first) and got all the way up to 100 C before I killed it.

I also tested Battlefield 3 on the turbo fan and when doing this the highest temp I saw was 81, which is still about 10 degrees higher than I've ever seen with turbo fans enabled but I kind of expect that given that there is no longer an cpu throttling.

I do feel I can confidently report these have solved my throttling/inconsistent FPS issues. Overall, my Battlefield 3 gameplay seemed much smoother with less spikes.

If I can just figure out htis temperature thing I'll be happy, for now I'm enabling turbo fans when gaming (not ideal for me since it's so loud :))

Hi,

I've flash this E1762IMS.30O bios on my MSI GT70 0NE but i can't restart my laptop :S
I show the very first screen at startup whith Dynaudio and Intel logo but DEL, F3 or F11 key don't work. Then, just a blinking _ on the black screen ...
I've test to reset the EC, to recover with the bios renamed to AMIBOOT.ROM on usb key but nothing of this work .... How can I fix it please ?? :'(

Could you post the current shipping stock EC for the GT70-0NE-281US in case I want
to remove the beta? Thanks!
