Connecting optic fiber cable to the optical outlet on the MSI THX sound card. I can see the card has power because all the sockets are illuminated. No sound is produced.
Windows Device Manager shows all devices have drivers and are working correctly.
I can plug this cable into anothers system and I get sound OK
Any help greatly appreciated.

Presume the bundled Quantum Wave card is placed in PCI-E slot E1? You might try with the Realtek HD Audio Codec R2.55 (or newest) drivers from their website.

Yes, installed in PCIE-1 slot.
Could it be that one has to select "digital output" for the optical output to be active?

That's probably it. Device Selection in the HD Audio Manager. The manual isn't real clear on that.
