I'm starting a new topic with the idea of posting here any information regarding the BIOS update for the Msi Mag Z790 Tomahawk wifi DDR5 version. You can also share information about the stability, benefits, and issues of the update here.

A new version of the Bios has been released
7D91vH9
2023-11-08
Description:
- Updated CPU uCode.
- Updated Secure Boot mechanism.
- Updated OC Auto rules.
- P-core Beyond 6GHz+ feature optimized with i9 CPU.
- Intel APO function optimized.
- ME Firmware ver: ME_16.

Good luck ;)

I updated the bios from H80 to new H90. For me, after an hour of testing, everything is fine.
Pros:
- the computer turns on from the moment of pressing POWER to showing the login page in windows 11 2 seconds faster as it was on the H80 (confirmed by tests before and after the update in three attempts for each bios)
- Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology feature appeared in Bios

I did the cinebench R23 test - the result is the same as on the H80I've checked the stability of wifi and ethernet- no comments.

Does the ME firmware update listed install automatically with the H9 BIOS update or does the ME firmware need to be installed separately? I am sorry to ask such a simple question but I don't know. Only way to learn is to ask.

It's always been like that, but this time they've posted separately. What I did was that while I was still on the H80 I installed the ME firmware. Then I did the bios.

Just bought the tomahawk. We build pc i714700kf, 32 corsair, 4060 msi, msi coreliquid. Wd black sn 850, ssd of samsung. Well could do a install of windows but...
Computer restarted few times in middle of use. On day 1. So day 2same thing works a while then reboots itself for no reason. Day3 worked about hour then restarted itself. Bios on start. Since day 3 only bios menu available saying all works fine... i find the disks, processor gpu and all is fine. But... then...
Can´t even ´install´ OS. On finding usb: reboot to bios.
Obviously broken motherboard or something wrong with it. So we ´debuild´ tried components in other pc. Bios speaks truth, cpu, gpu, disks, ram all works... then what is left???
Or isn´t it broken since bios starts....
Yes my pc was build by ppl that know a bit about it. Looong weekend but after letting 5 gamers/builders check the problem.
we think we might have a qualityissue on our hands.
i come from a very stable gl73 labtop thought. Had higher hopes then this choosing msi product tbh. Disappointed

Is this fixable with ´update´ since h90 is on there or is it a mb for the crapbin?... happy holidays... 🥲

In my computer there is also something quite wrong, but it is not ok. On both the H8 and H9 versions, it happens from time to time that the computer will restart. This can happen even after a night's rest. I turn on the power strip, turn on the computer, enter the pin to windows and the windows pulipit appears, and then suddenly the computer does a reset and restarts on its own. Surprisingly, I had the most such situations on the H8. I switched again to H9 and within about 3 days with two such cases. Windows 11 has the latest possible updates. This happens even on the default bios settings. In the H9 I had fades from the frame sensors, so there is also something wrong with it. Generally, the msi z790 tomahawk wifi ddr5 has poor reviews on the internet. Lately there have been a lot of comments that CDs are coming to people already dead from the new. In my country, msi has a very bad reputation for botching. I understand that you have two plugs plugged in from the CPU power supply because the board has a 2x8 pin from the CPU on the motherboard side. Same on the power supply side. I also have a msi 1000W power supply. I checked the error logs and after such a reset wo a critical error was written - the system was restarted..., possible causes the system stopped responding or crashed or there was an unexpected loss of power. On the other hand, immediately before the restart, only WARNING was saved- The maximum file size of the auxiliary file of the real-time session "PCA file tracing session" has been reached. For this reason, new events will not be logged in this session until there is space available. The cause of this error is often the start of a tracking session in real-time mode without any users operating in that mode. My RAMs run on the XMP profile at 6400MHz. They are not on the list of tested memories. Both the memory test in windows 11 and other tests do not find errors. I don't know what's going on yet, I'm looking for the reason and wondering about the quality of this motherboard. Let me know what you find.

Good evening! I would like to tell you about the problem on this board. It is not possible to stabilize the i5 14600k processor at stock frequencies. Reduces the multiplier from stock to 52. If you set the multiplier to 54, then everything is ok. I would like to somehow reach out to the developers so that they can check the BIOS.
TVBs are not disabled at this multiplier. There is no reaction from the motherboard.

Hi, if any of you are struggling with problems with this motherboard I can say that I also had a lot of problems, especially in the last few days. After a long search for the cause, I finally figured out what I had done wrong. The problems were that the display of the RAM temperature would fade out, sometimes one and sometimes both. The temperature disappeared even in the bios. The second problem is that your computer resets frequently. For example, right after the appearance of the Windows desktop. Out of 10 runs, 5 ended with a reset. I was jumping back and forth between H8 and H9 and in the end even H9 was giving me a computer reset. The recipe for all this was to do a bios reset, but not from the uefi menu, but with the bios reset button on the motherboard. An alternative is to remove the battery for about 5 minutes, short the pins. After such a reset, I reinstalled the H9 bios (on top of the already installed H9 in my case). After installing, I did a bios reset again using the button on the motherboard. I'll tell you that he took it away with his hand. All the problems are gone. Not once did the temperature disappear and the computer did not perform a reset even once. I think I messed up once by the fact that I did the return from H9 to H8 with this program for flashing bios in windows. I didn't know then that in the bios itself goes back from h9 to h8 and that's why I used this program from the msi forum. There must have been some mistakes. To sum up, from now on, before I flash the bios to a new one, I will first do a bios rest with a button, upload a new one and again button in the plate. Maybe it will be useful to someone. Merry Christmas to all.

Good afternoon The problem is in the BIOS. No resets help me. AVX support does not work correctly on this multiplier. I hope MSI will fix this in the next BIOS.

Thanks for your feedback. I agree with you that many of the issues related with the BIOS update are related with some parameters or options that are not recognized appropriately by the new version of the BIOS. Therefore, although not stated in MSI's instructions, I believe that a BIOS reset could always be recommended, either via the button on the back of the motherboard or by removing the battery.

I just built a new computer with this motherboard. It is important to note that all the components, including the two memory modules, were on the compatibility list provided by MSI for this motherboard model.

After placing all the components, and before proceeding to install Windows, I accessed the BIOS to check what version the motherboard had. It was the H7 version, so I downloaded and updated the BIOS to the H8 version using the FlashBIOS option of the UEFI (place the file on a USB and update the BIOS from the UEFI itself). I have never had any problems with the H8 version. Since then, the only thing I have updated has been the ME Firmware to version 16.1.30.2264.

After reading your comments, I have not yet updated the BIOS to the H9 version. But in case I do, I will obviously do it through the UEFI FlashBIOS option by resetting the BIOS options, and never through the MSI Center program.

I would like to ask you some questions about this H9 version:
- Have you noticed any special changes after the upgrade? (not counting the computer resets that seem to be solved by resetting the BIOS)
- Above all, have you noticed any change in the performance of the internet connection via WIFI or ETHERNET?

Lets see if the issue related with AVX support reported by the p`revious user is solved in the next update.

I can't tell if there are any significant changes compared to the H8 version. There is definitely support for Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology (DTT). Has anything changed with wifi - probably not. I don't use Ethernet yet. Generally, after these turbulences with bugs, the H9 version runs fully stable for me again.

в чем проблема AVX? :хм:
Yes, at 14600k the mat does not want to keep the multiplier equal to 53, the thermal speed increase kicks in. Even if you manually set the offset to AVX with temperature restrictions etc., the motherboard still ignores this and resets the frequencies for large cores to 5200 MHz. Even if the TVB is turned off, there is no reaction. But at a frequency of 5400 MHz everything is fine.
