I'm starting a new topic with the idea of posting here any information regarding the BIOS update for the Msi Mag Z790 Tomahawk wifi DDR5 version. You can also share information about the stability, benefits, and issues of the update here.

Is anyone having problems updating this BIOS 7D91vHH?
I'm on HG0 and was going to update. I believe there is already a new BIOS microcode with additional degradation fixes for 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs.
But I saw some reports that after updating, the settings were stuck on a white screen, preventing overclocking.

Has anyone with a configuration similar to mine been successful and everything working fine?

I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with this question.

I have a computer almost identical to yours (i7 13700K and RTX 4070Ti from MSI). I recently updated the BIOS and haven't had any problems, not even a reduction in performance when applying the settings I had before the update.

Before updating, note of any settings you have made, as everything will be reset except for the fan curves.

I updated the BIOS through FLASH BIOS within the BIOS, copying the file to a USB stick.

Same config with a Gigabyte 4070, no issues after updating, it was smooth, didn't face any issues since I updated and I updated 2-3 days after the bios was released
 
I forgot to mention it. Although I haven't really had any problems after updating the BIOS, I did see the following message in the Windows event viewer.

It seems to be a common error in recent BIOS updates for many motherboards. The problem is that the solution usually given leaves the motherboard bricked because the system cannot boot . So, for now, I have decided not to touch anything. I understand that it has something to do with the expiration of certificates in June 2026.

Does anyone know what to do clearly and safely? Many recommend waiting for Microsoft to update it automatically.
 
Thank you very much for your responses. I decided to update here for vHH as well, and I have nothing negative to report so far.
I was able to overclock the memory as I had before and continue with the same settings and performance in this new BIOS. Thank you.🙏
 
New BIOS 7D91vHI availabe, Anyone tried it yet?

– Update GOP.
– Update Micro Code.
– Update ME FW v16.1.40.2765

Didnt know there is a new microcode. Does it further improve the degration issue or is it just a security update? Is Intel releasing changelogs for their microcodes?

I've been looking into what fixes are included in that microcode, but it seems that most of them are vulnerability mitigations. However, it also appears to include some functional fixes. For my CPU (i7-13700K), it fixes several issues related to crashes in C-states, SpeedStep transitions, TSC, TLB/PCID, data loading, split loads, VM-exit, and REP SCASB/CMPSB, as well as a USB 3.2 issue. The USB issue in particular catches my attention.
 
Since you have installed the update, could you check the microcode version in the BIOS? I would really appreciate it, and it would be very helpful to all of us.

Microcode version is shown in OC > CPU Specifications
Sorry I've only just seen this and wasn't near my PC so couldn't check. I can also confirm it's 133 microcode as others have mentioned.

What USB 3.2 issues have you been experiencing out of interest?

I'm glad we're continuing to get stability fixes for our machines. With the state of hardware prices these days and the somewhat related stagnation in terms new, cheap future hardware, I'm glad the 13th and 14th gen CPUs are still absolute beasts. I imagine I'll be gaming and using my 14700KF and 4090 for many years to come.
 
What USB 3.2 issues have you been experiencing out of interest?

Personally, I haven't had any issues with the USB ports, but according to Intel's information—which includes details on the latest microcodes—the following informations is shown:
  • USB 3.2 Bulk Transfers After Device Initiated Flow Control
    Problem
    : When a USB 3.2 device initiates flow control and is connected to the USB Type C* Sub System, the xHCI controller may temporarily pause USB 3.2 bulk transfers until the next micro-frame after the device ends flow control.
    Implication: Due to this erratum, USB 3.2 bulk transfers may be temporarily paused.
    Workaround: It may be possible for the BIOS to contain a workaround for this erratum.
    Status: For the steppings affected, refer to the Summary Table of Changes.

Just updated an hour ago and did different benchmarks and in my case i have some performance degradation and higher cpu package temperatures,

Did first cmos reset
Upgrade to new bios
Default intel settings
Cinebench r23 28000 points
Instant after few seconds all cores drops to 4800mhz due direct temps of 100 degrees
Assetto corsa 67000 points

I used then the same settings as the previous bios
Pl1 125 w and pl2 125w
Cpu lite mode 6
Intel ia cep disabled

Previous bios
Cinebench r23 around 26000 points
Cpu package 70 degrees
Max 135w
Cpu constantly all cores 4600mhz

Assetto corsa benchmark around 78000 points
Cpu max 72 degrees
All cores 5300 mhz

New bios
Cinebench r23 around 24000 points
Cpu package 78 degrees
Max 132 watt
Cpu cores 4400 drops to 4300

Assetto Corsa 66000 points
Cpu temp 78 degrees
Cores 5300 mhz but all core drops to 4800mhz randomly

Those temperatures are too high for the PL1 and PL2 values you have set. What CPU do you have, and how do you cool it?
 
13700K and cooled by Bequit Silent Loop 360mm and the fans are Bequit Silent Wings Pro 4 and the paste is Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme

You have the same CPU as me. With the previous BIOS (7D91vHH), I got 29,272 points on the multicore test with Cinebench R23 using the Noctua NH-D15S cooler after 30 minutes of testing, with a maximun of 257 W (PL1 and PL2 at 253 W), CPU lite mode 7, CEP disabled, and reaching a maximun of 89°C withou thermal throttling. My memory settins are DDR5 at 6400 MT/s. Of course, each setting is a different world.

From what you've described, I understand that you used the same BIOS values as before. Remember that after the update, all BIOS settings are reverted to defaults. Like in previous BIOS versions, it’s important to note that the CPU lite load setting may have been rescaled. The value of 6 you entered may correspond to a higher value in the previous BIOS.
