Black screen for 2–3 seconds when exiting DRM protected video playback (RTX 5060 Ti)

Hello,

I would like to report a reproducible issue with my graphics card and ask whether this is a known compatibility problem, a firmware issue, or if my graphics card may be defective.

Graphics Card

  • MSI GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB VENTUS 2X OC BLACK PLUS
  • Brand new, factory sealed.
Operating System

  • Windows 10 64-bit
Problem Description

Whenever I exit fullscreen playback or close a DRM-protected streaming application (Disney+, Max/HBO Max, etc.), my main monitor goes completely black for approximately 2–3 seconds.

Immediately before the black screen, I briefly see a horizontal strip of black-and-white static ("TV snow") lasting less than a fraction of a second.

During those 2–3 seconds, the audio also stops briefly, and then both audio and video return to normal.

This only happens with DRM-protected content.

It does not happen with YouTube, games, benchmarks, or any normal desktop usage.

The graphics card is otherwise completely stable.

Hardware Configuration

  • Main monitor: Noblex MK27X7100 (HDMI directly connected to the GPU)
  • Second monitor (tested disconnected during troubleshooting)
  • Power Supply: Redragon 850W 80 Plus Gold Full Modular
Troubleshooting already performed

  1. Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers.
  2. Completely removed drivers using DDU in Safe Mode.
  3. Installed an older NVIDIA driver version after DDU.
  4. Updated / checked NVIDIA firmware (VBIOS utility). No firmware update was required.
  5. Tested with Chrome.
  6. Tested with Microsoft Edge.
  7. Tested with the Disney+ Microsoft Store application.
  8. Tested with only one monitor connected.
  9. Tested on another monitor.
  10. Disabled NVIDIA RTX Video HDR.
  11. Disabled NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution.
  12. Confirmed G-SYNC is disabled.
  13. Disabled Windows MPO (Multiplane Overlay).
  14. Verified RGB / Full Range / 8 bpc output.
  15. Stress-tested the GPU successfully (no artifacts, no crashes, no instability).
  16. Checked Windows Event Viewer. No Display driver (nvlddmkm) errors or Display 4101 events are generated when the issue occurs.
Additional Information

Initially I suspected an electrical issue because my Sony Muteki audio system caused a similar monitor blackout when powered on/off while sharing the same voltage stabilizer.

After moving the audio system to a different power outlet, that issue disappeared completely.

However, the DRM-related black screen remains exactly the same, so it appears to be unrelated.

Important Observation

My previous graphics card (GeForce GTX 1660 Ti) never exhibited this behavior using the exact same PC, monitor, HDMI cable, Windows installation and software configuration.

The only hardware change is replacing the GTX 1660 Ti with the MSI RTX 5060 Ti.

Could you please confirm whether this is:

  • a known compatibility issue,
  • a known driver/VBIOS issue,
  • expected behavior,
  • or a potential hardware defect requiring further inspection?
Thank you.

It may as well be a compatibility issue with RTX50 series card and Windows 10.
I don't think the card is damaged. More likely Windows struggles to handle things properly.
