blank monitor after driver install

I am trying to install a MSI G4Ti4400 into a Soyo SY-K7V with a fresh install of XP professional. The drivers install fine, but upon reboot the monitor stops updating.

The computer seems to be working fine, that is, it will shut down when I hit the appropriate keys (windows, arrow down, then enter twice).

I also get some graphical anomalies during startup. The black boot screen has a pattern of unchanging white rectangles across the entire screen. I also get some short green vertical lines during the XP loading screen.

Is this a driver issue or a broken G4 card?

thanks

btw, I had the same problem with a Windows 98 install on the same mobo.

lunaro,

What Monitor are you using? Could you be using a refresh rate the monitor cannot handle?

Do you have another monitor you could connect for testing purposes?

probably a refresh rate problem, boot up in safe mode and change your refresh rate to 60hz. (for the time being anyway)

I'm having lots of problems with my new MSI G4 Ti 4400 card and Win XP too. I've downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia (40.41) as well as other older drivers trying to find something that would work. My screen still goes blank frequently and occasionally locks up (though less than with the older drivers). This happens on my new Viewsonic flatpanel and on my old Micron monitor as well. This is a new card but I had the same problem with a PNY G4 Ti 4400 card and sent it back thinking it was a bad card. Help please!!

Here's my specs:
P4 2.0
1 Gb DDR Ram
Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra MB
WD 80 Gb HD
Viewsonic VA800 (refresh rate is on 60Hz)
SB Live 5.1
WIN XP Home

I think my monitor is the root of the problem.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 955DF.

Right now XP and plug-n-play is failing to regonize the monitor. I am using using generic video drivers and a generic monitor. As far as manually setting the refresh rate, the only option I have is "hardware default refresh" (or something like that). When I get home, I will look at the Samsung site for drivers.

thanks for the advice

btw my power supply is a Enermax Whisper 365w. When I bought it I didn't envision buying a GeForce card (thank you Neverwinter nights). Maybe I should buy a new powersupply too, just to be safe.

lunaro,

You can set that monitor to Plug and Play. It is PnP compatible. Have you tried the nVidia Reference Detonator 4 40.41 Drivers yet?

I've gotten XP to see the G4Ti4400 card in the Device Manager. It is listed as not operating properly.

The Monitor and graphics adapter are still listed as default under the display properties dialog.

The monitor's properties button is grayed out.

Earlier I did successfully get everything running properly.

After an uninstall, XP found and installed the card's driver. I was able to right click and open the display properties dialog. For a minute the card and monitor were listed properly. The refresh rate was listed as 60 mhz. But then the screen blacked out and the monitor indicator went to yellow.

After a reboot, the monitor's indicator stayed black with the indicator blinking yellow. On the next reboot I hit F8 and asked to to boot to the last known good configuration. The monitor stayed black with the yellow blinking indicator. I then used safe mode to go back to the vga drivers.

thanks for your advice
