I have the K8T800 and the athlon 3200+ it takes a miniute and 20 secs from pressing the power button till windows boots and is at the desktop, this seems a bit slow to me was wondering if this was normal or slow. SATA and Raid is disabled, any thoughts would be appreciated.

I to get long initial boot times I am using two raptor 36gb 10,000rpm SATA drives in raid 0 it seems to occur after initialising my raid drives and takes about 10-20 secs to get past that screen (am using the VIA raid not the promise) alls ok when i reboot or when i exit bios it just flies past

Well, time to tell my finding and solution.

What I HAD, was that after POST and access to the SATA HDD there was a time-out of about 15-20 seconds. ONLY with SATA drive as bootdrive and DVD and CDRW connected to one of the IDEconnectors.

Solution: I swapped the normal IDE flatcable that connected my DVD and CDRW and used instead a UDMA66 flatcable. Like one that comes with the K8T NEO.

Despite the DVD and CDRW only supporting UDMA33 and it had been working with a normal flatcable on a MSI KT3 Ultra2

Most easiest way to test if you got the same issue:
DISCONNECT the flatcable that connects to the DVD and CDRW FROM THE MAINBOARD .

And another option to try is to flash your BIOS to v1.1.
That firmware also updates ROM's of the VIA and Promise controller.

Just checked my boot time. No SATA or RAID. Boot.ini at 2 seconds. But with floppyseek in BIOS enabled (would differ a second I guess).

From pushing the powerbutton until opening an application: 30-35 seconds
