Hello community

First of all im not someone who knows much about computers.A week ago i bought  the 6qd version of gt72s (with gtx970m) and im having splitsecond fps drops, stutters in like every 2 mins once regardless of game settings.(Its not that big or bad but it kills the experience in intense games)I also tested them online and still im having the same issue. Some of these games are downloaded to hdd and others are ssd.Having the same problem in both of them.My graphic card and audio driver is up to date.I ran some of these games (rocket league etc) also on intel graphic card and it happens less but still these splitsecond fps drops occur. So far i also maximized the power plan settings and intel link power management option in the intel rapid storage tech is also disabled.

Any ideas about how to fix or what can be the cause of it?
Thanks in advance

Hi, I bought a new MSI GE62 2QF (GTX 970M) last week, and I'm suffering the same issue you describe. I haven't found a solution yet, but I've explained some details in my post:

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/268835

One of the games I've played is Rocket League, and I get about 5 or so stutters every match. They kind of look like microfreezes or something. I've tried to get some help from MSI support but, as of now, it's being useless, so I'm having to try anything to find out the cause.

I wanted to monitor the temperatures and loads while in game, using some software like HWiNFO or MSI Afterburner, and that, unexpectedly, reduced highly the frequency of the stutters (one or none in a full Rocket League match, for example).

So far, I'm starting to think it has something to do with Nvidia Optimus (the tech which automatically switches between Intel and Nvidia VGAs) not working properly on Windows 10. Are you running that OS? I found an interesting post on Nvidia forums with people suffering a similar issue while in desktop (only in laptops), and seemed to have started after Win10 upgrade. Maybe Optimus is trying to switch VGAs while in game, and that causes the stutters. In that case, seems like the monitoring software continuously reading the 970M sensors avoids partially this problem.

Could you try MSI Afterburner or HWiNFO to see if it reduces the issue also in your laptop? I can see some stutters yet, but with a lot less frequency, but I've tried so many things that I'm not sure if is just a placebo effect (more than four days switching drivers, reinstalling the OS and benchmarking the laptop can make your head hurt...). If it works for you, it can be a temporal workaround, but I want to know the cause for sure, because I want a definitive solution, and having to rely on more software to run a game is annoying.

I also thinked about the possibility of a faulty Nvidia VGA, but after reading Nvidia forums and your post, I think it is driver related. If that's the case, looks like the solution would be a downgrade to Win8.1 until Nvidia resolves the issue. If I find out anything else interesting, I'll keep you informed.

Hello umutoktay

I suggest you try updating all of your drivers which might be contributing to this problem.
Also make sure your bios/uefi are up to date.
Have you noticed this problem after altering something significant recently?
It might seem dull, but I suggest trying to reverse the change that you have made and see wether this fixes the issue.

Best of luck

Hi. I finally installed Windows 8.1, and no issues found so far. Games run perfectly without stutters. It looks like it is some kind of bug related to the Nvidia drivers on Windows 10.

Hello again!Thanks for the replies

I reinstalled the old driver of graphic card and i still have the same issue..I also realized that in some strategy games like stronghold crusader 2 and starcraft 2 after a while it gets too laggy and runs only around 30 fps and once i alt tabbed to desktop when i returned to game it made me wait for 20 seconds with black screen and then pc restarted itself without an error:/(Can it be a ram or cpu issue since strategy games mostly demand more cpu as far as i know) So i think im gonna bring it to service. And this one is non-optimus i mean you switch the cards with a button so our problem might sound like the same but i think yours might have another reason. Thanks for the help and replies again!I hope that installing windows 8.1 solves your problem completely f-2041:)

When I migrated my STEAM Game directory to My GT72S 6QE I had no end of trouble getting star point Gemini 2 going. Another small game without much settings (Prison Architect), the fonts were corrupt and blurry. You will find its a combination of games not being updated or lacking in the right settings or just windows 10. Windows 10 is prone to doing stupid things in the background. Remember windows 10 is a working progress with major updates every few months.
I am currently using the Nvidia driver from the MSI website version 359.06 which is over 3 months old. Why?
Answer: I figure the Micro Star Instruments company has been around since 1980's, some 30 years building computers. Their staff would know all about gaming and some staff would be paid to play all games on all MSI platforms to see if they work properly and the drivers are right. Hence the strict guideline of using ALL drivers from the MSI service download area for your model of MSI notebook as they have been tried and proven to be stable.
The newer Nvidia drivers '364.51' from the Nvidia website corrupted all my games with hideous waves and non readable graphics.
Also the newer version of Nvidia experience was a problem as it corrupted some of the games settings and I had to re-install an earlier version of Nvidia Experience, but eventually I got rid of Nvidia experience too.
I also read a comment in one of the threads in this forum that the GT72/S series does have some issues with play certain games.
Consider some detailing utilities and a benchmark program.

Did anyone find a fix to this? I recently bought the exact same model (970M) and I get random fps drops in every game. The frequency of the drops depend on the games but they're very annoying. It's like the screen freezes for half a second. Will my warranty cover this?

Please help :D

I have this same exact issue. Running on a GE72 6QF Apache Pro. Tried absolutely everything I could think of and find in attempt to fix the problem and nothing has worked. Please somebody save me.
Here is a video link to the stuttering displayed in Rocket League Link

Hello,
There are many possibilities for stutter :
1.Internet issue
2.Graphics card driver issue
3.OS issue
4.Windows update issue.
5.Game patch

Recently, lots of people having issue due to windows update, Nvidia graphics driver and game patch.
Suggest try below:
1. Get the latest windows update.
2. You can try DDU uninstall Nvidia graphics driver and clean install driver from MSI website first, if not working then from Nvidia website.

3. Close the windows policy
http://windowsreport.com/stutter-games-diagnostics-policy-service/
4. Use 3D mark to check the score if it is normal.

5.Make sure you get the latest game patch.
6.Can you share your system info txt by using the tool below after your try the steps above?

And provide the temperature when the issue happen by using DGC.
7.The last option will be F3 recovery back to factory default.

Holy mackerel! I've been struggling with the same problem ever since I bought my GT72 Dominator Pro G. I also created a topic about it, but I was unable to resolve the issue. I am so glad I checked the forum today and went through 12 pages to see this topic (although I was looking for some information on whether it'd be possible in the future to upgrade the GTX 980M to GTX 10 series.) Step 3 helped me resolve this stuttering. It was the same sort of stuttering that someone showed in a YouTube video?I think 2?3 posts above.

Thank you everyone! Now I can enjoy my games... finally!

P.S. If somebody knows whether it'd be possible to upgrade the GTX 980M to GTX 10 series, please let us know! Though, truthfully, I don't expect any information about this to come out at least until the GTX 10 series is released for notebooks...
