Bricked BIOS on GT77 Titan

Is there an emergency BIOS recovery function available on MSI laptops? Today I installed the new BIOS and the system powered down midway through the flashing and that’s it. Only the keyboard lights up for a bit and nothing more happens. The system shuts down after that. I know RMA is an option but just wondering if I can resolve this on my own if possible.
I already tried the CMOS reset by holding the power button down. The power button blinks a few times but again, nothing happens after that.

As I know, there is no emergency BIOS recovery function. If you want to restore to the default setting, you can select "Load Optimized defaults".

Do you mean there is no MSI logo showing and can not enter BIOS mode after booting up the laptop?
In this case, it is suggested to go to the local service center to repair.
BTW, do you have GT77 Titan 12th or 13th?

Yeah even the MSI logo won’t show up. It’s already been picked up for RMA. Mine is the 13th gen. I wish MSI added some Flash BIOS button like they do with the desktop mobo.

This happened to mine as well with the bios 108 update. Luckily, I bought mine from my local microcenter and they swapped it out. I installed the 108 bios again and this time no issue. Seems like this new update is hit or miss as far as bricking. Very scary.

Not much you can do other than maybe try and flash it with an SPI flasher of some kind.....or take it to a shop and see if they can do it.

They should pull the update if it randomly does this. What a mess

There is a risk in updating the BIOS which may cause the system to fail to boot. Generally, if there are no problems, there is no need to update.
As I know, "Clear CMOS button" is for motherboard product. Laptop does not have this function.

I think you can hold down the Power button for 1 minute and it should force a BIOS reset
But Auto bios recovery would be a nice option
like some other units have
It is not like Intel don't have the option and have had for several years

Below is for a NUC Unit
Would be nice to see this option on MSI Notebooks as well

what does this new bios update do? does it have any noticeable improvements?
I updated to the last one because it fixed the bug with the brightness not being able to be adjusted.

I'm not sure we'll ever know. MSI really doesn't put out specifics on what is 'fixed' with each BIOS. Usually it's very generic.

I got the same damn problem and sent it for RMA. a poup came up from MSI center software which was preinstalled saying there was hardware system updates or something like that cant remember. It prompted me if i wanted to install them now and said not to turn off pc or unplug AC power. Windows crashed midway im guessing due to the update and then the pc would not turn on. It must have been a BIOS update that it installed when windows was on and then when it crashed the bios got corrupt due to not completing updating it basically bricking the BIOS and hopefully not the cmos chip and just having to reflash which there is no option to do. How the hell can MSI install a BIOS update when windows is on. Asus will install it on next reboot in bios through ez update, not when windows is running. Im not sure if the bios update was at fault or the software. I'm never doing any updates through there software again even if its driver updates, will always install manually through the website from now on. I'm scared to even do a bios update through USB stick next time as this might happen again. MSI should have some sort of default bios it can refer to if this happen

Funnily enough, I did mine with the a USB stick in BIOS and it still failed. Anyway, I got mine back from RMA and with BIOS 108. But 108 is gimping the CPU by limiting it to 120W max. Stay away from it.

Ok I will probably get the latest bios installed too then when I get it back and the new power limit. My retailer said it can take 2-3 weeks before I get it back. They sent it to Msi. I hope it’s the bios but I had the exact same thing happening as you where the keyboard briefly lights up and then it shuts off. Tried battery reset etc. No Msi logo or anything shows up so 99% sure it’s the bios being corrupt. I just think it’s bad that this happens I bought a laptop close to 7000 dollars and this happens. But anything can happen I just think with that amount of money I spent there should be reflash option or something to restore bios. Also what power limit was it before? I didn’t have a chance to test anything really. Maybe they got reports of overheating cpus or something m. Really bad that they don’t list what the update actually includes and don’t include previous bios updates, only the latest lol. ASUS list what it includes ti an extent at least and you can install previous bios updates.
