Hello
i bought a msi 790-a pro and tried to remove heatsink on motherboard to install m2 ssd. But i can only remove one screw which is close to sdd slot. But other one is turning some time with screwdiriver and stop to turn at last. i tried lots of time and screw is damaged i think. Both of the two heatsink same. Am i doing wrong. does it only allow one screw to remove ?

Yeah. Kinda sounds like maybe the holder came out?
Can you remove the heatsink at all? Can you look from the side to see what is happening when it turns?

i cant see from the side unfortunatelly. I couldnt remove the heatsink at all but unscrew one screw and turned the heatsink paralel to motherboard in order to install ssd. But termalpad and screw is damaged a little bit i think.

Best I can suggest is to contact MSI directly and see what they say or want you to do. See : >>How to contact MSI.<<

Screws may be captive so won't come all the way out if you lift that end of the heat sink as you unscrew it it should just lift off once you get it fully unscrewed but the screw will stay in the heatsink and not come out of it

Now i understand what u mean, thanks a lot. That design is bad i think. I tried hard to remove and probably damages screw, termalpad. When i removed the heatsink, i looked the right screw, it looks very rigid, dont turn more.

These are images after heatsink remove.
Do u think that i need something to change.
termalpad is a little bit damaged.
screw head is damaged
i dont know if the screw hole part on motherboard is ok.

i have msi 790-z pro. there are two heatsinks . first one is above between cpu and gpu. second one is below graphic card. which one is better for cooling. i bought 980 pro without heatsink, it works hot as i understand.

Looks ok thermal pads are pliable so will be ok to still use just go gently on the screws

Use the Top M.2 as it gives more speed as it runs off the CPU the other three run off the chipset
