Since there's no socket 754 forum yet, I'll aks it hre ;)

I recently bought the Athlon 64 MSI K8T800 combo.

When I try to install the (windowsXP)driver from the Audigy2 CD, the system hangs, followed by a reboot.
I tried also to install the driver manually (included the diverpack 3 on Creative's website) but that didn't work out either.

Only the gamecontroler installs fine.

Is this a known issue on this mainbord? am I overseeing something?

It worked fine on my previous mainbord.

I have the onboard sound , the IEEE-controler and the raidcontroler disabled because I have a SCSI HD and do not plan to use the IEEE controler, and the Audigy has one too.

I tried also to shuffle with the card in order to avoid possible IRQ-conflitcs.

It won't help you a lot but as I see Creative sound card don't like SCSI controllers (I was having issues with Adaptec and Tekram, but others may conflict too).

What SCSI controller do you have?? Does it have newest BIOS?? Try disabling PnP OS in BIOS - it may help somewhat but only if Audigy and SCSI controller does not share IRQ!! If they do try to change them between slots so they don't...

try to put the scsi card and the sound card in different pci slots, I had similar problems with my sb live and adaptec scsi card before and moved them around to different slots until I found where it worked. Upgraded to Audigy 2 a few months ago and put it in the same slot where the live was.

I have an adaptec 29160, it worked fine on my former mobo with the audigy 2.
I'l look for newer bios.

This is my IRQ overview:

sorry some parts are in dutch ;)

Edit, I tried most of the slots, mabe one not, but it didn't change the IRQ at all ?(

I cann't anderstand why these thing aren't discovered during testing before these boards go retail, asumming the soudblaster series are one of the most audio cards in use, or could it be an incompetability with the Athlon 64 ?

I was having 29160 with Live! Platinum (and Audigy Platinum later) on ASUS P3C-D and it was working too - but 1 of all: I was not using Windows (it was Linux only box :D) and 2 of all: it wasn't working out of the box - I was having serious problem getting it to work - so it seems to me not being Athlon 64 specific issue.

If IRQ is not changing it seems Windows like having some devices on some IRQs
:( Try to disable PnP OS in BIOS as I've written before... I don't know if you don't have to reinstall Windows then to see any change in behaviour...

You are right that Sound Blaster is one of mostly used audio cards, but it seems Creative don't care. They just don't like to spend any little time testing their products with SCSI controllers because they don't expect people using SCSI (used mainly in servers and expensive workstations) to be computer audio enthusiasts :(

I don't understand it anymore, there is already one user who has no problems with his Audigy2, how can I check if my mobo is defect? I tried every slot, is there a thing I'm overlooking in the bios?

I tried a Audigy 1, with the same result ?(

Skinner, I just upgraded my main system to a Gigabyte k8vnxp(has the same via kt800 chipset as your board) and Athlon 64 3200, 1 gig corsair 3500 xms ram. I have it up and running fine. I have the following installed:
using the onboard network, USB, Firewire, and all four Pata ports. in the slots I have
AGP-ATI AIW Radeon
PCI-empty
PCI-Audigy2 Platinum
PCI-Adaptec SCSI Card
PCI-empty
PCI-empty
since the problem I had several years ago I found that for SB/SCSI/Raid to operate properly that the sound card had to be in a higher priority PCI slot than the SCSI or Raid card.
Also, each time the cards are moved go into bios under pci settings or whatever the pci settings are under on your particular board and reset the escd. Hope this helps.

Thanx anyway, but I have changed the board for another one, another MSI, I liked it except from the probs and I'm perfectly fine now :)

The board runs perfect on tight memorytimings 2262 (pc3500 corsair) but I find out, or more a user on amdmb ;) that Turbo oc the gpu with 13 mhz 8o that's the weirdesst thing I ever saw.
