Can't go into Windows directly

Hello,

I have been using my PC with the MSI B660M-E DDR4 motherboard for 3 years now.

Today when I opened my PC, I went straight to the BIOS. No logo, no nothing, just straight to the BIOS. I thought it was due to my drives not being recognized but all my drives were being recognized.

I then checked my boot order and the correct drive was present there (it had the windows boot manager tag) and it was the highest priority.

I proceeded to then restart my PC, pressed F11 to enter the boot menu and booted into the drive.

I now have to do these steps every single time I want to use my computer. This has never happened before and only started happening today. Please help me fix this issue.

that sort of Symptom usually Points at the CMOS Battery Failing as its Discharged and is now not holding the DATA correctly. have you ever replaced its CR2032 Lithium Button Cell at the bottom of the Board? if you have not that is the best place to start when this is happening as its usually its not keeping the Time and Date and windows expects that to be in a certain Range and if its drifting out of range it will refuse to boot. there cheap and easy to find as nearly everywhere sells them.

Hey thanks for your input. The date and time are fine so I didn't thought much about it.

But yes I didn't even touch or replace the CMOS battery ever since I bought the mobo in 2023. I'll look into it

if your drives are there and its not booting but sending you to the BIOS before it will BOOT usually 95% of the Time its the CMOS battery is giving up so its the best place to start.
 
It would be odd for the battery to be flat after three years already though. Normally it should last 5-10 years. But yeah, if something was changed in the BIOS settings somehow. the battery would be one possible explanation.

What you can also try, update the BIOS to the latest version from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B660M-E-DDR4/support
Maybe that will sort out the booting issue.

I Highly Suspect the Battery even though they should last a long time due to there Geographic Location (lower Middle East) so poor Power system and regular Blackouts so Likely to have been on the Battery for the CMOS alot more then Normal so Probably in 3 years has 7-12 Years of normal Drain on it that would be expected in the West.

I would have updated the BIOS but I live in a rural area and there is no trust on the power grid. I don't want to risk my entire PC being bricked so I willingly don't update the BIOS. So it's basically the factory BIOS since many years now

If your board has an early version as the factory BIOS, it was full of bugs. So I would advise to update the BIOS as well. Maybe you can take it to a place where a friend has a UPS that protects you against a power outage, or maybe you want to get a UPS yourself (uninterruptible power supply, with a big 12V battery inside).

Also, depending on your CPU model, there were very important microcode fixes that came with later BIOS versions. But I don't suppose you use a true 13th/14th gen CPU (like the -K models), probably more like a 12100 or a 12400, right?

Also, next time, think about getting a board that's a bit higher up in the model range and has a Flash BIOS Button. Once you have that button, you don't have to have any fear of BIOS flashing anymore, you can bring a board with a corrupt BIOS back to life with it.

My board is b660m e ddr4 and I pair it with i3 13100f. And yes there's no flash bios button
 
Ok, 13100F, luckily it still uses 12th gen technology inside, so you didn't slowly grill it by not updating the BIOS. With a 13600K for example, using an old BIOS will slowly make the CPU unstable over time, irreversibly. But still, the power issues must be bad in your country, I would try to get a UPS. You have to be able to update the BIOS every once in a while.
